really dumb question, but are these just glorified hubcaps? i don't understand.....

They are sort of a hubcap, but are a bit more 'functional'. On the back they have functional 'turbine' blades that take in air and push it towards the brakes and hubs, thus cooling them. BBS, Zender, and a few other companies also had similar caps and systems around the same time-frame as when BMW came out with these M-System goodies.
Yes, they sound, and are, a touch gimmiky, but they do in fact work, although I don't have any real data to back up my argument...Comment
