I like the innovation. There is so much extra material in a stock bottlecap, I can't imagine the structural integrity has been compromised.
It is getting harder to get decent tires in 14" however. When even a modern Toyota Prius takes a 17" tire, you know 14s are going to be harder and harder to get.Lance Richert '88 M3, #35 PRO3, i3 etc.
