Just curious: Would you recommend installing this in a 5-speed car? If so, is there any precautionary device to keep the car from being started with the transmission in gear? Or does one just need to remember to leave it in neutral?

Firstly could you start you car without depressing the clutch? There is a module that does not allow the car to start when in gear with any of the Directed Electronic products as some of the newer cars require to depress the clutch to start. If you dont need to depress the clutch to start the it would be a remeber to not have the car in gear when you remote start.

Some customers ask me to bypass the module that does not allow the car to start in gear for unknown reasons I dont know up to this day (mostly Subaru guys) but the Vipers have them built in and I wont bypass them on the E30s as a safety measure.

The E30 does not have a clutch interlock. You can Start it in gear no problem.

Then with the E30s you would have to leave the car out of gear when wanting to remote start.
