I have a breaker in the UK I have done a good deal of business with lately. I started thinking about a 6 speed transmission for my project lately. As it turns out, ZF six speeds are quite common in Europe and share the same pattern as the Getrag 265. Most of them come out of the Europe-only 320d built from 2003-2006. If five of us want one, the price would be $750 each shipped to me in Denver. I work for a trucking company so I could ship to the rest of the US for another 50 bucks. Bear in mind that people drive a lot less across the pond and none of the transmissions he sees have done 70k miles. PM me if interested and thanks.

So this is just for the M30 and most the the 4cyl powered cars only?

265 has a removable bellhousing. The '82 528e was the only 265 that that ever had a m20 bolt pattern, a 1 year only bell housing.
A 265 bolt pattern is M30/M10 and similar 99.99% of the time. If OP was suggesting the 6 speed fit M20 bolt patterns, a better choice of gearbox to compare to would be suggested.

This is what the wiki says,
The ZF S6-37 is a 6-speed manual transmission manufactured by ZF Friedrichshafen AG. It is designed for longitudinal engine applications, and is rated to handle up to 370 newton metres (273 lbf·ft) of torque.
Gear ratios:
1 2 3 4 5 6 R
4.350 2.496 1.665 1.234 1.000 0.851 3.926------zf
3.83:1 2.20:1 1.40:1 1.00:1 0.81:1 3.71:1-----g260
So it doesn't give you a longer highway gear, just an extra, shorter gear
