I've used VR stuff to assemble several engines including the top end of my m42 and have had zero issues. I am VERY particular about the cleanliness of sealing surfaces and only use paper gaskets in areas that won't be exposed to oil (like the intake). Right Stuff is awesome shit and really should be used to replace paper gaskets on mating surfaces like timing covers and oil pans. I also use Copper Coat on all head gaskets.

No offence intended, but if that's the case, the problem probably wasn't the gaskets....

I haven't had any issues yet but I did smear very finely RTV on all the gaskets besides the head gasket .

You got lucky, I thought my gasket was leaking but it's my manifold, it's cracked . But where the #1 runner meets the flange, I think it can be fixed.

Places where VR gaskets were used leaked. Places where other brand gaskets were used did not leak. You can say I did everything wrong and that they are a great, quality item -- that doesn't bother me. However, I'm not a minority in having an issue with these gaskets.

I haven't had any issue using their gaskets on my e21 and e30. I like to use curil K2 instead of rtv. Helps me dissemble and reassemble parts while at the track in an emergency.

currently running a slue of VR gaskets on both my m52 and my dads m42. thus far no leaks. 25k+ on the m52. <1k on the m42. I, too, are careful about my mating surfaces lining up perfectly and being very clean and dry. I torque everything specifically to spec and on some locations I use blue threadlocker.(timing covers for 2 reason, 1) its a b**** to get to and take apart. 2) its all aluminum thus torque specs are low)

I also had problems with my VR head gasket.

The motor (s14) was assembled on an engine stand and I had a friend helping. I did about 3K miles and then the head gasket started to dump coolant in the combustion chamber. I replaced it with an OEM gasket and I have been good since.

When I first saw this thread I dismissed the claims as "installation error", but now that it has happened to me, I will do my best to stay away from VR.

I had the OEM gasket side by side with VR. The OEM gasket was heavier and it had additional metal "tabs" around water ports. (where my VR gasket had failed).
