Either way, it isn't like I am gonna have a set of these in my car, so you guys hash it out.
I am with you on that. In high end home audio, you try and cross the tweeter/mid low and then you mount them as close to each other as possible.

Of course it all depends on lots of variables, the size of the tweeter, it's Fs...etc etc. The smaller tweeters have better pattern or wider sweet spot, vs bigger tweeters.. so it's all in the design. Personally I like the cross the mid low in the 2-3k range to not hear its cone breakup at higher spl...but then you must use a robust tweeter.... :)

I found in car audio the crossover design "slope and cutoff / 12/18/24 will have the most effective after placement.

Having the tweeter close to the mid will help with trasnient response which helps imaging.

Im very interested as well. Is there anyway to keep part of the map pockets to hold stuff? Like was said before storage is scarce in our cars.

Not sure keeping the map pockets would be an option. Hell, the door skin is so flat and straight, you could probably fab up a whole new (bigger) panel with pockets.

I ran Dynaudio D21AFs active at 1800Hz 24db/oct...but I would never consider doing that to a car tweet, no matter how burly they think they are. My exiles are supposedly 3500Hz at 18db/oct...yeah, right.

OMG isn't this kind of a MUTE point considering all the loud ass mufflers, engine revs, and fucked up noises our 20+ year old cars make??? If you have a new 335 and you are redoing your stock setup, have at it! Fuck I would be happy with anything better then what stock shit came with the damn car.

And having said this, I totally respect all of your opinions on this subject, SERIOUSLY!
I'm just questioning the fact that, is an E30 truly the right aspect of venue to seriously be considered worthy of such a high level discussion such as this?
Every point you, extremely knowledgeable gentlemen, make is incredibly valid for another better equipped audio-theater conducive environment, for example: an X5 or S500. Something a bit higher end maybe, where minor bumps and road noise are going to pose significantly LESS of an impact on your very sensible auditory receptors.

I could be wrong here. But thats just me.

                      Mute point huh?

It honestly depends on what you do with your car not everyone drives it with that same "racecar" driver mentality. I'm sure alot of e30 owners simply own one for the aesthetics of the car; they'll never ever abuse it in any manner and will only drive to cruise in it. That's where music comes into play. I know once I rip out the interior I'm going to deaden every possible square inch in the car.

I found the E30; one that has not been torn into is a very quiet car. Certainly better then most of the new Domestics a handful of others. The X5 is not all that quite and the S500 is a terrible car for audio unless you modify the crap out of it.

Right there is the main reason I do what I do they way I do it: my stereo is "decoupled" from the car.

My stereo is quieter outside the car when playing at 130+db than a new car is playing at 100ish db. The kindeys rattle a bit, that is the loudest thing (yes, it is funnny) outside of my car. The sound is decoupled from the body of the car, so it keep lots of that noise out.
