Sorry, I didn't answer your question here........payment is due when you order, same as any other order. BUT, I anticipate selling these out before they actually arrive and a paid orders gets the parts. I will order another batch as soon as it's appropriate but a build cycle takes ~6 weeks for a batch.
Holy shit this is the best fucking deal out there. I just got my AST 4100's installed with vorshlag camber plates and rogue engineering RSM's last week and it's AWESOME. I thought I good a smoking deal but this pricing is just unbelievable.
Jack I have a small problem with my set-up. I accidentally got the non-race vorshlag plates the really tall ones and I want to get the 15mm shorter ones. I think the only difference is that little red thing on the bottom that holds the bearing right?
Is there any possible way I could buy that piece separately so I could swap it out with the one on my current camber plate?
Non race? The only difference would be the spring perches using a single row bearing vs double row...this amounts to 5mm, not 15. You can purchase perches separately for certain, those come with the bearings. Vorshlag does offer a different spool option which adds ~8mm of static ride height but this is generally for specific applications so I don't think you would have receive this by accident. And I'd be surprised if another shop even knew of this.
Ohh you're right, I just called vorshlag to make sure and they are 5mm shorter. For some reason I remembered reading 15mm haha.
I think when I ordered my AST's I specifically asked for the single-bearings because for some reason I thought it would be better for daily-driving because when they had the drop-list of options the double-row bearing said "RACE-ONLY" lol. I don't see why I made that decision though because all the bushings I bought had "RACE ONLY" next to them too LOL.
Alright well thanks for clearing that up for me haha, my front springs I believe are 6"
These parts are correct....6" front springs (well I don't know your rates but generally 6" is good) and you can use either single or double row bearings. For cars that are more street oriented vs track I prefer double row but it really doesn't matter from a performance perspective.
Depending on other factors, you should have no problem getting good ride height settings for both track and street.
A few PM's on this so I'll post it here...........
Yes, you can run both stiffer or softer springs. How much either way...roughly +/- 150-200lbs. I'd not recommend going much lower than 400/500 as you simply will not need to, even from a ride quality standpoint.
As for stiffer for track use, certainly upwards of 700F/800R is not a problem and really, again, I don't think you would need to go much stiffer. There are likely some other things you can to do improve the overall handling other than simply pushing the spring rates higher. We've found that going ultra stiff is not really beneficial...some of this depends on tire but either way, some compliance is good.
^Getting the e30 m3 weld on tabs with OEM e30 m3 end links (or aftermarket adjustable) is a great way to stiffen things up in the front! That's what I did
Oh btw just FYI to anyone who buys this kit, everyone will tell you that the inserts are 30mm shorter than stock, THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know who the fuck is telling people that, but it wasn't true in my case, so someone behind the desk is misinformed. I called AST themselves, vorshlag motorsports, and a couple other AST dealers ALL told me they were 30mm shorter than stock. I forgot the exact measurement but it was more around 20mm shorter than stock. The point is, WAIT until you get the actual inserts IN YOUR HAND to make the measurements yourself and begin the strut shortening.
Anyway seriously, if you have the money to invest in this kit, DO IT! I love my kit on the street so far and I can't wait to take it to the track. I doubt you can find a lower price on AST's than elephant's pricing... I've contacted 6 different dealers before I finally bought mine, unfortunately for way more than elephant's price! lol but still totally worth it
Well, I just measured a set I have sitting here compared to a Bilstein something or other and it was ~34mm shorter. I certainly can't say to what set you received but all the ones I've sold and have on order are more than 20mm shorter. In fact I think the exact number is 31.75mm (1.25"), I'll confirm this though as I suspect there is some measurement area depending what is the specific points. It's 30mm though, not 20.
I reread this.........6 different dealers, that's kind of funny in that I bet there are only 3 that have ever actually sold an E30 set. LOL.
Well when I had my strut housings shortened @ TFB Performance in Infineon raceway I told him that AST told me it is 30mm shorter and so he measured and we found out that would be way too short and that the insert would be sticking out a lot. The exact measurement I forgot so I texted the guy who did it for me just now and he forgot the exact measurement too but he remembers it was between 3/4" and 1" which is aprox 20mm-25mm, so it was definitley not 30mm...... and these were just my stock 1990 325i strut housings so I don't understand why we are getting different measurements lol, is it possible AST changed the design or something?
Either way, all I'm trying to say is that for whoever orders this kit, it's best to not shorten your strut housings beforehand, wait till you get the actual inserts to make the measurements yourself. I think our measurement differences further suggests this point lol.
Oh I'm not saying you're not right just that there could be other reasons for that. To my knowledge, AST has not made the "standard" variation of the E30 4100 other than -1.25" for sometime. Of course there are a couple reasons that *might* have happened and perhaps you got a set like this. I set the drop height on these I think more than a year ago if not longer, maybe 2, I forget. Everything I order is the same and has been for well over a year so the sets that come out of my shop are all the same, -1.25"
