NEED INPUT & INTEREST - MAF Conversion Kit

Reading through the "How to" projects posted online for completing a MAF conversion on an E30 what it basically boils down to is knowing what the voltage output is from the AFM to the ECU @ different RPMs and using a piggyback computer of some kind to take the signals from the MAF and retranslating them to a voltage signal that resembles the AFM so the ECU thinks the AFM is still there.

My idea is to drum up interested in an harness adapter that has the ability to create the voltage translation on it's own. I have a feeling I may be able to pull this off with the help of some engineers around work.

What I'm basically trying to do is create a way to make the MAF conversion cheaper, easier, and a lot less involved.

if you can do it I'd be interested. but I'm not holding my breath (no offense, I've seen many promises like this before).

Yeah I certainly be interested if you made.

But not going to cry if you don't.

        interesting idea for sure.

where would you source a MAF? i.e. have you considered other donor cars etc?

there are units out there for other cars in our same situation. though a "simple" harness wont do the job, youll need a PIC or some sort of uP to perform the conversion. First thing you want to start with is, like fret said, what is the most common MAF to use in this.

wish i had more interest and time to work on this but i will continue to check this out if it makes progress and help out a bit.

I well aware that a simple harness itself will not work.. What I'm looking to do is integrate a small box between the original AFM connector and the MAF connector that would make the translate seemless.

What I'm mostly interested in is finding out if I can make them will people want to really buy them? Is the MAF conversion enough people are interested in doing?

As far as the MAF I was looking at using the 98 M3 Siemens MAF. Unless someone has a better suggestion?

I doubt that many people on this board would buy, I've seen many people say they would, but only a few actualy have.

The Mazda V6 (Probe, 626) has a worse MAF than ours...it is a conical wedge that shrinks the available surface area as airflow increases...worst thing you can imagine for flow.

I read an article that used a Ford "Hotwire" sensor (like the 5.0, etc) and some controller...made like 35 HP with just that mod alone.

Wish I could remember the name of that module.

Is the article referring to the Ford "Hotwire" sensor for E30's? I must have missed that one.

Split second Uses a mustang 5.0 MAF for it's kits. Grass roots magazine had an article about installing the kit on a 535.

sounds interesting but it all boils down to cost and how much power it gets out of it. i'm waiting to ssee

really comes down to cost on it, if the cost is good im sure some people would buy
