    P0340 Cam Position Error HELP!

    Hi Everyone,
I feel like I have read almost every thread on the internet about the cam position error on the M52 engine and still cannot figure out how to fix it.
Things I have done so far.
3 different cam sensors installed (siemens, bosch and an autozone sensor)
replaced the harness for the entire engine and checked all connections that are related to the cam sensor
checked for proper vanos actuation using air pressure
retimed engine with cam locking tool
replaced cam chain tensioner that is in the head (easily accessible tensioner)

I am at a loss, are there are other things I should be looking into?
Should I perform some of the above actions again to make sure I didn't screw something up?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I have been struggling with this forever now.

Specs on the car are '86 325, swapped a m52b28 into the car, running an m50 intake manifold with a tune from Kassel to delete secondary O2's and EWS and mapped for the m50 manifold.
Swapped in the 5 speed transmission with the m52.
Hopefully I am not forgetting anything.
    Thank you.

Have you tried a different ecu?
Did this just start happening? Was it running fine before? First time running?

Did you come across this thread where 328ijunkie mentions the 5V drivers in the DME getting damaged from a bad sensor?

I think I would measure the sensor readings at the DME pins to confirm and then see if a second DME fixes the issue. I can't think of anything else at this point you have not tried already...unless all of those cam sensor have been bad.

Anyone got a spare dme that is known to work lol I bought this engine trans and dme from a kid out in Portland. Not sure if the code was present before pulling it out of the e36. Had this code since I got the engine running in my e30.
        Thank you for the replies.

Post up a WTB thread in the "Parts Wanted" area of the classified section. I've had some luck with that in the past.

I think if the 5V was bad, you'd have TPS issues as well?

Is the trigger wheel installed on the cam?

            Any datalog or INPA info?

I've had both cam and crank position sensor errors fixed by reflashing the DME-

my THEORY is that a bad memory cell gets detected or reallocated, so the
sensor can be read again. But this was after scoping the DME pin to confirm
that it was 100% getting a valid input at the pin, and was a last attempt before
              replacing the DME.
Actually, it was a rehearsal to make sure my flashing rig worked,
and a wild hare just to see if the DME still sorta worked.

It's amazing how useful an oscilloscope, even a cheapie, is on any engine that has electronicals...
