    Oil leak

    Hey,

My engine was dripping a little bit of oil from behind the oil filter cartridge so I thought one of the bolts had come loose, so I tightened it a little bit and now it's pissing out from behind it.

What's the deal? Are the seals gone?

Yup. #11 is a VERY common problem.

Alright, so I changed the gasket, start the car back up and BAM starts leaking again, determined that this part is leaking

Why would it leak? Is there a seal behind it?

Also my oil filter stand looks different then the one I posted above, whats the deal?

I just snapped this picture of my housing at work:

Mine has a completely different bolt than yours, maybe someone replaced it with what you have now. Maybe try to find a seal that fits behind the washer, then find a larger washer?

Edit- buy hoverguy's. they are nice.

Later cars don't have the galley plug with the O-ring and circlip. I don't know when the new design started. M52's?

Ah ok, kind of figured that was the case. I think it was the M50TU in 1993, since SamE30e has a a NV-M50 (1992). This was taken off of a '95 525iT (M50TU) motor.

Weird .... I have a 92 N/V M50 and mine looks exactly like this RealOEM picture......

#11 is a very common leak source from what I hear as well.
