Any pics of the adaptor. I have a mechnical autometer gauge. Do i just run a line from the oil center(Rouge engineering) to the gauge?

        On the S50:

The stock oil sender threads are M12x1.5

but the coolant temp sender threads are not M12x1.5... I used the stock sender to fabricate an adapter. I cut the connector, drilled ans tapped 1/8 npt...

I don't know, seems like a good price that greatly aids getting an oil temp and oil psi reading.

I may consider doing that myself now.

The IE cap has ports for senders AND coolers. Way nicer IMO.

This is an oil cooler thermostat with an 180C thermostat AND it has 3/8"NPT which is the same as the IE CAP.

I got my oil distribution block off ebay, I think it was like 40 bucks. He taps one hole for the stock switch and whatever you want in the others, so you can have an easier time buying senders in the US. For water temp I simply spliced into the cluster temp signal, the sender is a VDO with the correct resistance range.

The block is ok, I think its a little sloppy down there though. It is a pretty easy thing to make with a drill press, and a few taps.

the "oil center" can be purchased thru UUC as well and is only a BIT more than the oil distribution blocks for S52s, S50's and M50's

if you search on bimmerforums in the racing sub-section you will find a lot of info and set-ups as well....

As I recall, the M50 senders have two different thread sizes. The sender for the DME is M12x1.5, the sender for the gauge is M14x1.5.

Seimens VDO makes the temp senders for the M50, and likely most of BMW's other motors as well.

I gave a call to VDO a few days ago, since I'm looking into replacing my water temp gauge as well and I wanted to use the stock sender location. the BMW part number for that sender is 12 62 1 747 281. For anyone who was wondering what the VDO part # for the sender, it is 323-805-034-002B.

You can find that sender, and many others in this catalog for VDO.

I was looking into using the stock sender with an aftermarket VDO gauge, but the temp range and resistance scale does not match. The stock sender maxes out at 130C, whereas the vast majority of senders for VDO max out at 120C, including the sender you buy for most aftermarket gauges.

The resistance scale for the stock BMW sender is much higher, with the ohms being about 426 at 90C, while the senders for most 120C sender are 51 ohms at 90C.

Hopefully this info helps other out too :)
