There is no reason you can't pass emissions with the mods you want on your car, you just need to have it running well, have a good cat, and have a tune for the mods.

I had the same problem recently with the m20. I was told the cat was bad. I was hoping that the m50 would pass with no problem. What are you going to do? Do you think it's engine related specifically?

90% of passing emissions comes down to these things:
1) Quality catalyst, at operating temperature.
2) Quality tune that's set for the modifications done to the motor
3) Working O2 sensor connected to the ECU
Now, I have done this enough to know a few more things...
Aftermarket cats are terrible quality. Stick with BMW OEM if you need to pass emissions.
O2 sensor is CRITICAL if you want to pass emissions.
And the most important thing is to drive the freaking piss out of the car before you get it tested. Heat up your catalyst and it will work much better.

I'm curious if everyone passes the emmissions testing where they are? I'm in Atlanta and will have to pass the "sniff" test. Has anyone had problems? Is the e30 charcol canister part of the emissions system, does it need to be hooked up in the swap. I also will be running a cat, most likely a magnaflow or similar.Tags: None
