Great getrag 260 gods please help me

I just installed my new custom bent linkage and custom made carrier. The car shifts into 2nd and 4th and 3rd very well but I have to push hard to get it into 1st and 5th and it seems the engage halfway and then I push a little harder to get it to engage completly. The tranny was awesome when removed from the m20 so I am stumped. any input is appreciated

It has to be the custom made carrier or you bent way too much the selector rod.

The carrier is the nice piece made by a board member. If I over bent the rod trying to make up for my 260 on the back of my s50 would it create this problem?

Why does everyone fucks with there linkage it only rolls a lill bit It hasn't made a difference in my car. 5th doesn't even hit the console so I don't uderstand the reason behind this. And I DD my car.

I didnt bend my shift lever at all, no need. I also didnt do anything to modify the aluminum console. I just rotated the selector rod that goes to the back of the transmission by rotating it a few degrees.

OP, if you bent your shifter I'd start there. Lets see some under-car pictures of the linkage...

Are you sure the shift lever isn't hitting the trans tunnel? I had to enlarge the hole in the tunnel to get mine to shift and bend the selector rod to have the lever centered in the console.

They are 20-30 year old cars. People have different booster/exhaust setups, requiring shimming the engine different ways. People also have different trans mounts, moving things around even more. Small variations at one end make a big difference at the other. What works for you might not work for someone else.

^^ya that's true. I don't see it a problem unless you shim the shit out of the drivers side.

No shims on the engine. I am running red tranny mounts. I will pull the boot out tonight and see if anything is hitting the hole. It is not hitting the balancer for sure.

I'm so confused, what did you rotate? And how did you do it?
Did you just put the rod back in without any modifications and left the shifter on an angle?

A picture would solve all the confusion.

I cut the rod and tapped one end and welded a bolt onto the other end so that I could get the shifter centered. The shifter is now perfectly centered but I can cleanly engage 1 or 5.

So I just strightened my selector rod because it was past 10 degrees and because I had put a bit of a hump in it to clear the balancer. It engages better in 1st and a little better in 5th. I think the one I will receive from mattdk318i will work the best. He has been very helpfull. I tried to make my own but his will be better for sure.

I cut, sleeved, and rotated (10 degrees or so) the selector rod that goes from the base of the shifter to the knuckle on the transmission. The selector rod wouldnt have worked at all without the 10 degree rotation.

I was just pointing out that I didnt have to modify the aluminum console. Seems like most people modify those. My shifter sits like a stock one, no odd tilt.
