COULD be engine coolant temp sensor. for twenty bucks its worth replacing, this really only decreased performance when the engine is warm though. but its worth a shot. what fuel pump are you using? and do you have a hot air intake like most of the people on here

A clogged cat will reduce power and give bad gas mileage and if you know something is loose in your cat doesn't that kind of point to it?

Well, the engine is usually warm when I'm driving it. Or do you mean prior to operating temperature or something? The pump is stock and relatively noisy, sounds like all the S10s cruising around. Hot air intake, consisting of a cone filter with silicon intake boot, hanging out next to the coolant reservoir. No shield.

You were supposed to give me your old heatshield. ;)

coolant sensor affects fuel at all temperatures, not just cold.

If the CTS is reading too hot, could it cause the DME to run a low idle and rich condition to try and cool off the engine? Kinda the opposite of warm-up mode? I'd be curious about the IAT too, but my engine doesn't have one where the bentley claims it should be, nor anywhere else I can find on the manifold.

Got an appt tomorrow to fix my cat issue.

Edit: Just stomp tested and got code 1444. The computer therefore isn't aware of what the problem is.

                      no, not usually

IAT is usually in the MAF

Yeah I read that somewhere else too, but looking in the bentley for E34, it claims that the IAT is in the manifold right next to the throttle body. I've seen versions with and without and assumed the ones with were either for vanos or automatics. The bentley made no clarification that I found though.

                        Thanks.

it's on the underside of your manifold. remember trying to hook it up when we took your manifold off?

nando, it's the obd2 MAF's that have the integrated IAT sensors

No. At any rate, if its there its not visible from looking straight on from the front.

Had my exhaust fixed and got 22mpg this tank, which is a record. 60/216 miles driven before the fixing. So according to my calculations, theoretically, I'll get ~26 miles on my current tank. Then an intake spacer and a heat shield and we'll see where I get.

                              Thanks guys!
