Hey guys - a lot of people say that they delete the power steering when swapping an M50. I am all for this if its manageable. How stiff is the steering with the pump and such gone? Also, do you guys like tie the hoses together or something or what?

I'd also not recommend it for a daily. I had it out of my e30 with a 95 m3 (3.0-turn) rack, and it was to the point where I was wearing down the leather on the steering wheel. My hands would turn black and the leather would crumble, because it required so much force. I also took p/s out of my track car with a stock rack. A little better, but it was much better with it installed. I wouldn't recommend removing it to anyone for a daily driver.
I just looped a single line and sealed it that way. There are also plates for sale that block off the ports, some member of this forum made them. You can fill it with grease or oil.

not that bad IMHO either. Surprisingly it's easier to steer the car when I have the 17s on than when I have the 15s on. It's a good setup for me. I run an e30 m3 rack and drive around on the street a little, mostly track work. I prefer the steering feel without the ps pump on the track...
Its really not that intolerable. Sure, more steering effort, but as long as you're rolling 5mph or more it's no biggie

Jon, i have no power steering in mine and it's never a problem. i cut the ends off my hoses and welded them together, it kinda looks like an 8. you gotta leave a little stub on each end and rotate them to face eachother when bolted up, or just have jay make you a block. i drilled one of the banjos and threaded a zerk in it, a couple pumps of grease and it's smooth as butter. you definately need to loop the system somehow though.
deleting the power steering and running with a bad pump or no belt are two different things. it takes alot more effort if the pump is still there.

I took the power steering out of my car because I prefer it that way. I did it mostly because I wanted to drop the front end weight after putting the heavier motor in and keep the car closer to 50/50. Doesnt bother me at all and I dont even think about the fact that it doesnt have power steering until threads like this pop up. As long as I'm rolling my E30 on 225/15's feels the same as my E36 M3 with power steering on 245/17's--- so if you are moving there is hardly a difference.
I made a couple of vented fittings so that I could use the standard bolts with crush washers.
It's really up to you though. If it's something you are into, go for it. If not, dont. If you dont have a reason to justify it, dont. One friend that drove my car had so much trouble turning the wheel when the car was parked that I actually laughed. It definitely isnt for everybody..
