Scrub radius should also be noted. All the guys with hella-mad-tyte-flush wheels will have a harder time at low speeds/stopped without PS than guys whose kingpin goes straight through the middle of their contact patch.

I'm a small guy and I run without PS no issues at all using an e30 m3 rack. I used to have a stock rack with the pump still attached, but no belt, and there was a definite noticable increase in force to steer, but it wasn't bad, the car had much more feedback and I liked it a lot. I have recently switched to an e30 rack with an aluminum PS delete block and it is WAY easier to turn then my stock rack with pump attached, I really love it. I only DD my car. The only time it sucks is doing really sharp extremely slow moving turns on pavement, otherwise it's totally fine. I repeat, I am a very small guy.Comment

Yeah, direct fit 15x8. He expressed interest a while back. He is/was first in line with JRKoupe right behind him. I dont think I've made an official F/S thread. Just mentioned it in another thread a while back. All of my 5-lug stuff is here now, and I'm down to one E30, so they wont work for me any more.Comment

I've got a 328 rack in my car. It's a bit of bear at a dead stop, like trying to work out of a tight parking space or something. But like the others have said, once moving even only a few miles an hour it's no biggie.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

My PS just puked all over my driveway. Just like my last E30.
Edit: Say I use the PS delete block sold here:
Since my rack itself leaks, that's not going to help, right? I would need the rack filled with grease, and I'm not finding a thread on how that method works.
Please advise.Last edited by funcrew; 10-24-2009, 11:57 AM.Comment

I'll chime in with my 2 cents here as well,..
I decided to depower my PS rack in my 94' 318is (m42 engine). I completely removed the snap rings, pinion shaft, rack, seals, etc - drained all of the fluid from it, greased everything up and re-assembled. I welded both bolts up where the PS lines used to connect. For future reference, you'll need a 59" belt now that you've removed the PS pump. I purchased a Goodyear 4060592 belt as that was the only one available locally. I've also created a solid aluminum block where the steering guibo used to be so there is no slop/flex in the steering feel.
The 1st day that I drove it .... backing out of the garage was tough. Anything below 40 km/hr (25 mph) and you need to use your arms (feels just like it does when a belt snaps and you lose PS).
HOWEVER,.. above 40 km/hr and the feeling is AMAZING. The feedback, the responsiveness - INSTANT. The car also SNAPS back to center faster then with PS. I can cruise on the highway with a single finger on the wheel for hours and not have the need to use a hand to correct the steering (although I dont do this ).
I'm still undecided if I like it this way or not,... I DO know that my girlfriend would NEVER be able to drive the car this way unless we were already cruising at 40 + km/hr. Any slower and she wouldnt be able to make a turn.
On the plus side,.. I never have to worry about PS leaks - I've free'd up some room under the hood,.. lost a little bit of weight, free'd up a small bit of HP (not noticable), and gotten myself a new belt
FUNCREW - Yes, you can use a leaky rack as the seals will no longer play a role once you run a greased up rack. To read up on how to depower the rack, see http://flyinmiata.com/tech/depower.php?x=1 <-- Please note that the torque specs are NOT the same for our racks.Comment
