    Question of the day...

As many know, I did a s52 swap last year. Everything was/is fine with no hiccups other than a failing old drive shaft. Well, ever since my first day with the swap running. I've always had my SRS light on. It wasn't on prior to the swap so after a year with that light on and finally annoying me, I decided to look into it.

So the question is: Anyone know why the SRS light would go off if I disconnect my c101-x20 adapter?

Or better yet, how to fix it? I've read countless SRS threads to no avail.

Isnt the SRS system separate of the C101 adapter?

That's what I thought... till I disconnected the adapter.

Also, what would cause the SRS light to go on if it was separate from the engine wiring (the only wiring I touched).

Doesn't the SRS interface with the diagnostic port? That would be on the engine harness. Either way, your answer is here:

Funny!... the same EXACT thing happened to me. Not on my first swap in that chassis, but on the second.

It left me wondering why the light would be triggered if the battery was disconnected the whole time?

Last time I had it reset it was over $100 at the dealer. I fixed it with a piece of tape over the bulb but it's still annoying to need to touch the check panel button on every start!

Should have just bought the tool to reset it yourself.

Re-looking at my c101-x20 connections, the only ones that delt with the airbags was the c101 (Pin16) white/black to x20 (Pin 17) white/violet. I'm guessing I need a reset tool...

Is there anything special about the tool itself? How does it work? Could the SRS light be reset in the same fashion as resetting the oil lights of the cluster?

do you want the air bag on your car? i removed the computer, and the sensors on the inner fenders. my light doesn't come on without the computer. besides, those first gen airbags aren't that safe anyway. if you get in an accident, it has been said that type can leave scars on your face if it blows out.

Yea, I've read numerous amounts of threads based on that information. I think I'll take out the whole shabam. Sensors, wiring, and whatever else is involved with that SRS deathtrap.

I just got mine a couple weeks ago. This thing is pretty sweet. There is a list a mile long of codes it can/will tell you (apparently more than an obd1 or obd2 reader will) and you can reset everything - the codes and service indicator lights. I will double check next time I pull it out if that includes srs lights.

Re: oil indicator lights - this may or may not work on your swap car, depends on your wiring from what I understand.

Only negative I've come across so far with this tool is that it is bmw specific, so I can't check the maint alerts that pop up on my girl's civic. Well, I guess the real problem isn't the reader, it's what she's driving ;) (then again her's runs and mine doesn't bah)
