I ran the fuel pump outside the car for about 10 secs. And threw it back in the car. Runs like new... lol till it fails again.

Ha, I guess they're just considered a consumable.

I ran into a hiccup on a new pump (single in-tank, 55L) pulling out of a right hand sweeper, when I had around 3/8 of a tank left.

          e30? What year?

When my in-tank pump does work, I can run it down to probably 1/8 and it still does great. I'm on r-comps pulling over 1g.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of people with dual pumps being able to run it down to nearly empty with few problems.

So back from the dead thread. Why is it when I give my oem pump time to rest (2 days) and go to start it up, it doesn't budge or do anything. I give it power directly, still dead. THEN I take it out from the tank and give it power and it runs fine. Put it back in the tank only to have the same issue if I let it sit for two days...

Any answers as to why its acting like that? Yes, I already have a new walbro one coming in but I want to know why my pump is acting faulty if it really isn't faulty?

Because it is faulty. That's what all of mine have done when they start dieing. I'm not fully educated on how electric motors work, but I know worn brushes can cause weird things like that.

On my Dremel tool, the brushes started to wear out, and the springs didn't have enough pressure to hold them against the coil. So I had to squeeze the Dremel where the brushes were, to get it to work. Got a new brush kit, works fine now. Same thing with Alternator regulators.

Dirt/corrosion/etc... can get built up throughout the unit and cause flaky operation. As I said, the method of reversing polarity/tapping on it is to get the car somewhere that you can safely work on it, not a fix or repair.
