    Heat shield options?

I desperately need a heat shield for my 3.5" intake setup:

Can someone -please- direct me to a vendor that either makes one for my application, or even makes one that can be modified for my application? I searched, and found nothing currently applicable. I also tried these guys:

after being referred, but I have yet to receive a response.

    Thank you for any help!

I need something too, I think a piece of ABS and some heat and planning is the way I will need to go.

I just grabbed a sheet of aluminum, bent it 90 degrees, and put it over the filter. It slides between the fender and body, and sits down on the frame rail. Disregard the sloppiness of the engine bay, this is right after I did the swap and didn't have a chance to clean anything up. I later painted the shield black, so it no longer stands out like a sore thumb.

Here is my setup without the shield:

There's a lot more stuff happening in C-T's engine bay. Late expansion tank, six cylinder radiator. I'd be interested in seeing some other heat shield setups myself.

Member "I-like-to-follow-JGood-around-and-harass-him-for-being-a-hick,-even-though-he-is-not, AKA Optimator, AKA Freddy" is partially correct. However, I used metal, a brake, and a tin snips to complete this challenge. Come to think of it, I may have even used my new HF 4.5" angle grinder. I only pull that out if I'm feeling spunky.

If you are looking for a high end part made of kevlar and uranium, look no further then FredK's marvel of engineering which was probably purchased from whichever retailer had the highest price at the time. Schneller? Korman? Adam Hanson? The world may never know...

Yeah, I know he is a bit cramped in there. Just offering up some ideas. I think he might be able to make something that would fit. It wouldn't be a simple setup like mine due to the stuff he has in that corner, but I don't think it would be all that hard.

                  A reply from http://signaturemotoring.com

                  Hello Chris,

Thank you for emailing us. It looks like the regular model heat shield made for the stock engine will work since the AFM is in the same position. You can order the standard heat shield with a custom-sized hole for no additional cost. Standard hole size is 3". Also, I recommened you remove the plastic cover piece that is behind the driver-side headlights there. Without the factory airbox it serves no function now other than to restrict airflow from getting to the filter and the "cold air box" that will be made from the heat shield install.

Your BMW 325i or 325is calls for our E30-A3 model which is available as a basic heat shield and with an optional aux. piece as the E30-A3 KIT. The aux. piece is a second smaller heat shield that works with the main heat shield for your car (goes around and over coolant expansion tank). The main heat shield can be used alone, but the aux. piece is recommended for optimal performance. So you can get the basic heat shield for $99.90 OR the KIT for $132.00. The E30-A3 KIT (or basic heat shield) requires no modifications to the stock BMW set-up. Install time is 30-minutes.

The domestic (US) shipping charge is $13.90.
Shipping to Great Britain is around $39.40 (6-10 day delivery)

Let me know when you are ready to order and you will receive an invoice via email which you may place the order.

Note: There is 7.75% sales tax for CA residents.

                  Thank you,
                  Peter
I think I'm going to go for it.

Actually, I'm using two zip ties linked together to hold the HFM to the stock AFM bracket, and no heat shielding.

I was in negotiations with BimmerTim to design something that'd give me an intake resonance at 7500 rpm to create a shockwave that would stuff enough air into my M50 manifold to boost the engine to 105% VE, but sadly, he had other engineering products on the table that took precedence.

Those "other products on the table" were part of a joint effort between us to adapt 5.0's to e30s, once he found out he can't make 672whp with a stock s50. Even with a Signature Motoring heat shield.
