A custom FI application for a VANOS motor will cost upwards of $1k just for tuning. Whereas a plug and play MS system can be had for half that, and more tuners can tune a NV for much cheaper.

I love the way a non vanos pulls, try one with swapped cams. so save those engines for us if you want to go with the vanos motors.
I went with a NV motor, I actually preferred it in theory, mainly for this reason. I'm used to cars that fall flat on their face at 5 grand, the NV is more of a high-end fun motor without being completely torqueless. That and the fact that I didn't want to deal with vanos issues, yeah there are solutions to them but how much more time and money is that going to cost to eliminate?

However the slight lack of CR and midrange compared to a TU definitely makes it the slower motor, and the fact that S50 cams aren't a direct drop-in is rather upsetting... can the S50 intake cam be adapted if you've got a lathe?

Haha where did you get those numbers from.

Does anyone know if the ecu from the e34 id be getting the motor from, which is an auto, would work on my 5 spd car?

Ya. The only VANOS issues are the price for custom FI tuning, otherwise there aren't any.

Take out FI/Vanos/Vtak/whatever, custom tuning on a dyno isn't cheap, regardless of your setup.

I was only referring to rattly, 15 year old vanos units.
