    0.5secs over the 400m is not such a huge difference when the motors are so different (in price and spec). Of course, this brings up the topic of drag racing BMWs and using an axe as a hammer, etc, etc...

      Cranking out to 300hp N/A out of s52/s50 requires at least cam work, its not that simple just to do bolt on's to get 60 more crank hp out a the s5x's. If it is provide me a dyno graph and mod's list and I will put your name on the side of the car.

        where are all the 250+whp S50's then? Any near that number (genuinely) have atleast schrick cams

          3L, 24V, intake vanos.........not what i would call huge, its just tuning (i dont mean the chip type eiither) i thought it was quite a large difference

            Most lightly tuned S50s are around 220whp or so. More aggressive tuning like headers, hfm, injectors will get you 225-230whp.

            I'm honestly expecting around 225 or 230 from my frankenstein engine and I have head work. Cams + head work will probably get closer to 245whp. 259whp is the MOST I have ever seen from an N/A S50US and that motor was WORKED.

              Thanks - so conceivably, one could make a NV motor into a Vanos motor by installing the unit, the cammes, the valve cover ... and the electronics/harness?

                You'd have to run some custom tuning, but yes. You also lack knock sensors, so those would have to be added. Not quite sure how you would mount them since there are no bungs to drill and tap... The custom tuning would be required to run without knock sensors.

                  Aren't there cast bosses on the NV block for the knock sensors?

                  I think Stu used a NV block for his stroker engine.

                      As I recall there are not. Could be wrong.

                      If there are, then adding VANOS isn't hard. Wiring might or might not be a bitch.

                        Hydraulic lifters vs solid, head work, different VANOS programs...??? On-paper specs appear similar, but re-read the posts in this thread outlining some of the internal differences.

                          I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

                          Just imagine:

                          You unplug the factory Siemens DME that is on your running S50B32 transplant. Then you plug in the modified DME... hide the pair of DME's. Turn the key and go.

                          It will be that simple. For safety sake, I'll be offering a Baro sensor option that will require cutting off the HFM plug, and re-pinning 3 of the 4 wires, assembly of the plug for that, and then plugging in the Baro sensor along with a vacuum type line to the intake plenum. This allows for ram effect to be used, and not run lean.. If you handled the transplant, you can handle adding this sensor!

                          Yes, it will be that simple.. hopefully to the dyno within two weeks to tune our first S50B32 with this P&P system...

                          hehehehehehe

                          Next step will be adding the Traction Control pcb which will give us 4 channels of VR to Hall conversion.... Launch control, full throttle shifting, pit lane speed limiter etc etc etc..

                          This will be FUN!

                            The only difference is that the s50b30 makes out 286hp, 46 more than the us motor, due to the fact that it has Individual Throttle Bodies (ITB)
