    Rad hoses

Am running M52 with an E36 318is radiator (built in expansion tank), and i know i need the stock M5x bottom hose, but to those that have used this setup, what top hose should i use? i have heard of making a hose from half M20 half M5x but i would rather a one piece solution. hopefully someone can help??
    thanks in advance

Both E34 hoses or E36 hoses cut to fit.

is that what you are running? so E34 is shorter than the E36 one? is that because the E34 uses the radiator i have or..?

So find one with a simple 90 deg end.
I cut a little off the short radiator side end and a large(practically 1/2 length) off the engine end.

No one said it had to be a OEM hose.
I got both of mine (e34 hoses) for like 10.00 for both and 6.00 for shipping. My top hose looks exactly like yours and I only cut maybe 1 inch off the rad side and 1.5 inches off the Tstat side.

              Yeppers.
I was referring to myself, regarding the cutting of the hose. I have an E36 M3, so The hose was useful.
The hose I did cut, surprisingly , would give you both an upper and a lower hose for the price of a single.

So E34 and E36 top hoses are the same?

I asked my auto store if they had anywith a straight part going to the 90 degree bend and they said they did but i didnt know the diameter i needed of the pipe (didnt realise it varied). We hit up E36 328i and got that diameter (for the engine) and then hit up E36 318i and got the diameter for the radiator but they arent the same (radiator is smaller). Is this a stuff up in in thier database? your hoses dont seem to be stretched/shrunk at either end.

also, they will sell them in sets (top and bottom hose) is the bottom hose the same across all M5x engined cars or does that vary too

You aren't. I went through weeks of hell with this issue. Everyone told me the e34/e36 hoses fit fine. I ordered them, and they didn't. you have to cut them down, and the middle part is skinnier, and doesn't stretch over the thermostat housing. Maybe some brands aren't like that, I don't know. I spent hours in pep boys, advance auto, autozone, etc... finding hoses that would work. I have the numbers written down somewhere...

If it helps at all, the E36 M3 hoses that Advance Auto carries don't neck down in the middle like the stock BMW ones do. Thats what I used on my swap (cut down) and it worked out fine.

yay, Im using E34 hoses and I had ZERO problems slipping them over the rad and T stat housing. Mine do tapper down in the middle like JGood says. But I just rubbed a small dab of grease on the inside of the hose and it went right on in like 2 seconds.
