    Shifter Carrier?

Alright, I've had my m52/zf swap for a good year or so. I want to make the shifter carrier more centered. I have the e30 shifter carrier in it (part no. 1221201), and it sits a bit too far forward. The e36 one looks a bit too short, so I was wondering if anyone knows which one I should be using.

I have a 1989 3.25i that was an automatic that I converted to manual.

    Anybody have any ideas?
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

That I'm afraid is not specific enough. The shifter carriers were different for the getrag and ZF boxes. Ask me how I know? Everyone says just use the e36 stuff, but the key here is to use the linkage that mates to the tranny.

I have a getrag box and mistakenly used the ZF linkage was not long enough. My solution was to lengthen it but I will be swapping to the proper linkage eventually as I already have the correct carrier in my possession.

zf320, used carrier that came with it.... with 260 you use the carrier that goes with it.

crap. so if i want it to fit correctly I need to source a zf carrier, then get that bitch clip out...

i was trying to mess with it last night, and I couldn't get the transmission to drop a bit, so I think I need to pull the intake manifold then loosen the motor mounts. Sound right for anyone?

I never loosen my motor mounts or pull the intake manifold when pull the tranny, but I have rubber mounts.

I can't squeeze my hand up there to get to the bitch clip, and I think my intake manifold is resting on my brake booster, because when I loosen the transmission I have zero play to get my hand up there.

Oh I have the AKG 75d(?) motor mounts, and I need to put in a brake booster that I bought from Jean :)

Can someone that has this part number (25111221864) shifter carrier measure it out for me? That part number says it fits a number of transmissions, so I want to see if it's the correct one that I need. Thanks.

Using a ZF310, 96 328i Carrier/Selector. Shifter sits forward in the opening, but shifter does not hit opening. The part number you listed should be the same one i have.

As far as dropping the trans, i imagine that your manifold is probably bumping on either booster or firewall, i put my carrier in without the manifold on and i had enough room for the bitch clip, although it was still a bit tight. Also using AKG mounts.

why do guys always complain about the "bitch clip"? it's not even a little bit hard. get a long skinny flathead, wedge it under the top of the clip, and pry. it takes maybe 10 seconds.

whoever came up with the name "bitch clip" probably shouldn't be working on cars. :p

To be honest, the circlips on the selector rod are more of a bitch (to get on).

It's not always that easy. Get it covered in dirt, oil, and grime, and it becomes a bitch. I've done it more times then I can count, and sometimes I can do it with my fingers in 2 seconds, other times I spend 30 minutes using various screwdrivers and picks and busting up my hands.
