What exhaust system is most efficient for S50 engine?

I passed by the shop to check out how my swap was coming along...its about 98% done with minor tweaks here and there. I heard the motor start up and then be driven. That's when i heard my obnoxiously loud muffler i currently have that made me cringe. I dont want to be that guy. So i need guidance in determining what set up i should run. I hear that if its not done correctly i could lose torque, i dont want that considering the whole point of the swap.

    thanks in advance.

S52 cat's and an exhaust that is not too big nor to small. Most Efficient hard to say as all engines are at various levels of efficiency.

what exhaust? Will running something similar to what the E36 has set up be more ideal? possible even? I'm not well schooled here so forgive the 21 questions...

      thanks

e36 midsection with e36 muffler modded to fit. I don't have this setup, but I've heard one and its nice. If you have the dough, go for an e36 stromung muffler, sound is excellent.

I have an e36 OBD2 midsection and an M3 muffler. Slight amount of modding to fit. Sounds great, very refined sound not loud yet slightly aggressive. Downside is that it costs a few HP to get it that quiet and it's heavy.

I was running OBD I's with a rear Remus E30 section, quiet but audible when you get on it. OBD II cats at the time when I built my last car were not cheap as they are now.

They are the way to go if you want a less raspy system, on the last car I did we used obd II in combo with the cheapy Chinese SS reps ending in a single pipe Remus system from a 318is lighter than e36 M3 can but just as loud at idle getting on it you know the car is not stock.

I'm running m50tu with e34 downpipes (massaged to fit) to 2.5" tubing mated to a Magna flow street series and a high flow cat. Its a nice low tone and a little raspy at high RPMs. It draws attention without being obnoxious.

Munn Manufacturing Tubing... HIGHLY RECOMMEND -fast shipping, cheap!!
                1x 2.5" x 4' straight tubing
                3x 2.5" 45deg elbow
                1x 2.5" x 6" Flex-Pipe
1x 2.5" Thunderblot High Flow Cat
1x 2.25" Magna Flow Street Series Muffler

                e34 pipes merged at 2.5"

6" flex-pipe and Thunderbolt High Flow Cat

                2.5" tubing running to Muffler

I have custom mandrel piping from the headers into an X pipe for the o2 sensor into a 2 in 1 out cat into 2.5" single with a 12"? Resonator and a magnaflow muffler, and I love the sound.

Your car does sound bad ass. Stunning torque too, so the balance is perfect IMO.

yeah, you need the "old to new" adapter, http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPO...1018048&sr=8-1

But I bet there is a cheaper place to get it

When I did my swap I felt it was important to go with BMW specs as a minimum.

For my S50 I used the cast exhaust manifolds (I know these aren't the best). I used E36 M3 cats and a Remus M3 cat back exhaust. I had a local muffler shop handle the transition from the exhaust manifolds into the cats.

I like the sound. It's aggressive but not noisey. It's got a raspy growl that sounds cool.

These videos give you an idea of the sound. One video is on the street the other is autocrossing.
