Starter delay

Borrow a known good battery and install.
Put a voltmeter on the battery.
Check what the volts drop to when you crank.
if voltage drops to 9v starter has dead coils and is sucking the battery down.
If you test your current battery this way, then it could be the battery as well that may have a bad cell.

delayed starting

I had this on both of my cars at one time or another. On my 24v it was a poor cornection on the battery,easy fix. On my 91' Ix it was an orginal starter that I think had a slow bendex (dry) . All's good now , just my 2c . Joe

One thing I just realized. It always starts when cold. Every morning when I go to work, and every day when I leave work, it starts fine. It just seems like it doesn't start when it's warm (if I shut it off when I get home from work and try to fire it back up). But before everyone jumps on the "hot start" troubleshooting steps... Remember, with jumper cables hooked up, it fires up instantly.

I'm going to measure voltage while cranking after work today.

And you can start it with jumper cables?

check your starter connections, your loosing current somewhere? maybe time for a new starter?

Bumpping this thread since I have the same exact problem as the OP.. like exact. Its quite frustrating actually.

As a quick recap, the car would start 95% of the time first thing in the morning. Then the more I drive and hotter the car/engine gets, the car starts acting up and sometimes (really inconvenient times) leaves me stranded. Connect jumpers to the car, and starts right up. I also replaced my battery (and starter) and problem still occurs.

Anyone have any further suggestions? I'm really tempted to roll the car into a lake as each day passes with this shat. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!
