    power steering res leaking

m52 turbo into 318is... Anyone had this symptom? Theres a small vent hole on the side of the power steering resv cap. After a decent length drive its spraying p/s fluid out that hole. I thought I over filled it so I took some fluid out but i woke up to a huge puddle under the car this morning. Cant see it leaking from any connection. Its almost as if the res is pressurized. With the car running I take the cap off and it looks like the witches brew in there,.. Lots of bubbling and swirling action. and actually a little smoke. In fact I can see smoke coming out of the vent cap when closed. everything but the pump is new ....New rack and resv container. Anyone?

I dont know what your situation is with Susanne but you should hang onto that. Any woman that will attempt to replace an ignition switch in an e36M3 is ok in my book. She told me shes already fashioned a removal tool/

Agreed with M, I bet you switched the lines in a hurry to get it back on the road.

No worse than me finishing wiring up the swap, cranks, lights work, no BANG. Replaced the fuel pump (thought it was going bad before the swap), still nothing.

Wake up the next, check the fuse box to see the fuel pump fuse isn't there, run to parts store, replace fuse, car instantly fires up.

well arent they sized so even an idiot cant screw it up? I know on the pump the uppermost port is high pressure. Thats going to my rack after that I forget lol I have to go look

Did you bleed it out when you filled it? Are the lines routed near exhaust/heat/etc. that could cause the fluid to boil?

It's nearly impossible to hook it up incorrectly, as the pressure lines are M14 and the low pressure lines are M16.

I'm uncertain if the low pressure supply hose diameter matters, but the larger of the two hoses supplies the pump, and the smaller of the two supplies the rack.

Turning the steering wheel is the bleed method. Frothing sounds more like cavatation of the
                        pump. Not boiling.

^ That was what I meant when I said bleed. Didn't see the frothing word, I did read the words smoking and bubbling however.

I kind of thought what fred said and wasnt sure if even I could screw them up. I did bleed the rack with the wheels off the ground turning back and forth maybe 5 or 6 times. Its really fucking up my driveway
no lines are running near anything hot as theres nothing hot on that side

think its possible i just didnt bleed it enough??

interpeted smoking and bubbling as pump caveatting.
