Okay, I figured out the confusion. There are two types of dipstick tubes. The first one has only one mounting point. #16 works with this tube only and bolts to the forward intake manifold support as most people are aware.

The second type has two mounting points like shown in the picture I quoted below. This one uses a totally different bracket that bolts to the block on one side and the filter housing on the other (IIRC). It has no other purpose than to support the dipstick (unlike #16). If you have a dipstick with two mounting points like in the picture below, you need 11431735535.

This is an M52 with M50 manifold and OBD1 conversion, just to clarify.

The way I have it above is plenty sturdy for my tastes.

is the P/N 11611738165? On the realoem image #16 is described as a "hose clamp" with this part number and its $4.93
actually, the part shown in that image is a throttle cable bracket, which should be BEHIND the throttle body

My tube only has one mounting point.. so Really #5 in the pic is the forward intake support that everyone is talking about (?)

This is how I ended up doing mine. S52 with stock M52/S52 manifold); Thank you for the idea ^^^

I did try using bracket #16 as shown on realoem (aka 'hose clamp' lol) and just could not get it to line up with anything. I finally found this picture of how its supposed to mount and I guess you need the M50/E34 specific manifold bracket??
Figured I'd post this here for anyone else confused about that bracket.
