Are these tools necessary to complete the "vanos rattle" with the Beisan/Dr. Vanos components?

Maybe the company would substiture the tensioner with that pin tool, since you can just use a nail or allen wrench. Or the flywheel lock tool, which can't be used with an m20 flywheel.

The rattle spacer does not come in the basic kit, but I figure if I'm going to do it I should do them both. Thanks for the info, looks like I'll be picking up those tools. I'm going with the zf flywheel.

does your car actually have the rattle noise? i also did the beisan spacer but my car never actually rattled. there is apparently also a difference between earlier and later vanos engines. ie an extra spring plate on the intake cam that helps quiet it down. check out this link where this issue is discussed:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/101-p...cam-m50tu.html
there is also how-tos on the vanos procedure on the pelican parts, beisan systems, and dr.vanos websites that are nice to read before doing the job

Thanks man, I'm definitely going to be doing some reading.
I don't know if my engine has the rattle noise, I bought a wrecked '99 M3 and figure I should do as much preventative maintenance while I have it out of the car and have the time. And if I'm ordering the seals I might as well order the rattle spacer so as to not have to take it apart twice.
