I'd love to purchase a set if you're willing to machine out an extra set.:D

Are you talking about the cam blocks? The surfaces that mate with the cams aren't square to the surfaces that rest on the head, it's not 90 degrees.

You can get the entire kit for ~$100...

Are these tools necessary to complete the "vanos rattle" with the Beisan/Dr. Vanos components?

Might want to try to find a kit with the dummy tensioner. I did mine without it, but if you're going through the trouble of tearing your vanos out, might as well get the timing perfect. Maybe the company would substiture the tensioner with that pin tool, since you can just use a nail or allen wrench. Or the flywheel lock tool, which can't be used with an m20 flywheel.

Yep. I've done two seal kits so far.

the basic beisan kit comes with seals and there is an optional "vanos rattle" spacer you can buy as well. i dont think it comes with the basic kit. i did mine a long time ago with the tools i posted but as jgood mentioned if you have an m20 or aftermarket flywheel you cant use the lock pin to keep the crank in place. im still using the stock dual mass zf320 flywheel

The rattle spacer does not come in the basic kit, but I figure if I'm going to do it I should do them both. Thanks for the info, looks like I'll be picking up those tools. I'm going with the zf flywheel.

does your car actually have the rattle noise? i also did the beisan spacer but my car never actually rattled. there is apparently also a difference between earlier and later vanos engines. ie an extra spring plate on the intake cam that helps quiet it down. check out this link where this issue is discussed:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/101-p...cam-m50tu.html
there is also how-tos on the vanos procedure on the pelican parts, beisan systems, and dr.vanos websites that are nice to read before doing the job

Thanks man, I'm definitely going to be doing some reading.

I don't know if my engine has the rattle noise, I bought a wrecked '99 M3 and figure I should do as much preventative maintenance while I have it out of the car and have the time. And if I'm ordering the seals I might as well order the rattle spacer so as to not have to take it apart twice.
