    Overheated aluminum m52

A guy I know has an e46 323i with coolant in the oil. Cyl. 3 and 4 were full of coolant I pulled the head and the gasket looks fine, took the head in and it's not cracked, but is warped a bit. My question is: Is it common for these blocks to crack?

    Read up on e46fanatics?

    ;)
    but really...
Did you re-torque the head bolts before pulling the head?
Apparently when these things overheat the head bolts have a habit of "stripping" the block..ie head bolts will not hold proper toque.

Seems like that could well be the problem?

Pretty sure that once the Aluminium blocks are overheated BMW considers them to be scrap. From a warranty point of view I believe they would replace the whole engine. Ye be warned.

The block will need to be Timeserted. The head will need to be heat straightened, skimmed and have the valves re-seated at a minimum.

        I don't know if it's worth it on a 2.5litre.
