Looking at those links makes the vanos system make way more sense to me now, thanks! I think, since it doesnt seem like it wouldnt be that hard to replace while the engine is in the car, i'll focus on the turbo build first and see what comes out of that. Then address the vanos if i should need to. Was yours rattling before, or do you just want to replace it anyways?
How come you are deciding to do a turbo build later and not while your already at this stage?1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

Not sure if the vanos was rattling or not, I never actually heard it but wanted to replace everything in it like the rest of the motor. Its basically a zero mile motor now!
Cost and time really. I want to drive this thing now since its in the 80's here. If I got into turbo it would be in my garage forever while I tried to figure it out...I'll wait until its cold to do that ;)'87 325ic, powered by S50.Comment

Progress Report:-->>
I Sourced a 95 325i and managed to get all the neccesary sensors, wiring harness, Bosch Red Label 413 ECU, MAF and fuel rail. Major thumbs up!
Bought the arp2000 head studs. just waiting for them to get here in the mail.
Picked up a Garrett gt3582r today. very minimal shaft play, and she spins like a top when you give her a little bit of breath into the exhaust housing.
Most likely planning on sending it to garret to get a full rebuild done on it. Havent really looked much into it. Anyone had success with this?
Here she is.
she's a little rough around the edges but i think she'll get the job done! :)
the fins have a few minor minor dings in them, which is why i want to get a full rebuild on her. I might just replace the fins though. Dont really know yet.Last edited by SwiftE30; 10-03-2012, 09:34 AM.1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

THanks man! obviously i am going to recommend you put the s52 in your e30. The process has been a ton of fun and i cant wait for the finished product. 24v e30's are the bees knees. And if you have a complete m3 you can make a bunch of $$ parting it out. Thats basically what has been funding my build thus far and its been a nice flow of income for new parts. SO yes, do a little research, talk with some guys on here and i'm sure they will recommend the same thing. Good luck1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

Updates!
I have been completely swapmed with work i havent been able to update my progress since i got home from school. Here she goes.
Recieved the Good & Tight Manifold from Otis. SUch a beautiful manifold. Thumbs up. Mounted the gt35r and rotated the turbine housing.
finally took off the oil pan to get her ready for paint.
i was so excited about painting the block i decided to paint my garage walls and floors first. Took a while and put the project on hold for a few days.
went from this...
to this...
HUGE Improvement.
masked of the block
Now here she sits. Waiting to sell a few parts from my 97 M3 to make some $$ for my south bend clutch.
more updates to come.
had some trouble with the turbo. My dad decided to try and take the exhaust housing off because we needed to ship it out to get the downpipe fitted for it, and in the process broke off two head bolts , as well as denting up the fins even more. Its in the process of getting the studs removed. Really looking forward to getting it back. Thanks for all the help Otis.Last edited by SwiftE30; 06-02-2011, 09:53 PM.1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

were you with him when he wrecked it?1989 E30 Zinnoberrot Vert 325i OBD1 S52 turbo;IPComment

no I wasn't but I was pretty sad when he wrecked it. I helped him buy it. It was a real nice car and drove really well. Like you said the guy who owned it before was a dealer tech and took great care of it mechanically. But my friend has an e30 now and loves it lolComment

yeah i remember seeing that when we bought the m3. Its unfortunate to see another e36 m3 die, but as a result the MPower Lives on!! heres the new build thread.
