Deciding on chip for m50 w/ s50 cams

Long story short I got ripped off by some kid named joey that got banned from here awhile ago. Anyways turns out the car i bought didnt have a dme or the tms chip that he said it did. Now im looking for a chip to buy and was leaning towards getting a miller war chip.

Just wanted to get your guys opinion on what kind of chip to get or if anybody is running a war chip in their e30...

        I'd recommend TRM.

TRM makes a good product but, since you don't live in Atlanta or anywhere remotely close, you are stuck with a 'off the shelf tune.' Sure they will spec it for your mods and a dyno sheet will help but, it's not as custom as you would like. It will run the car and it will run well but, its only as good as a remote tune can be.

I'd say go for a Miller chip. Take it to the dyno and tune it yourself.

I'm currently building a m30b34 turbo with Miller Chip and MAF setup.

Guess it depends what you want to spend and how crucial every last HP is to you. Just the dyno time to create a tune that's better then a TRM off-the-shelf tune (or any name brand tune for that matter) will probably far exceed the cost of the TRM tune. Especially if you're not familiar with tuning.

Obviously, going with a turbo build like yours, you can probably get a good bit more power with a custom tune. m50's with s50 cams aren't exactly powerhouses, so you're probably only looking at a few HP gain for a good bit more money...

It's just an M50 with S50 cams, not much room for improvement from a solid off the shelf tune...

You have a completely different situation since you're doing a custom turbo set-up, where a dyno tune is critical to making power and improving reliability.

You guys are definitely right about a fully tune-able setup being over kill on a m50 w/ s50 cams. You are also right about it not being a powerhouse. I was very unsatisfied with my m50tub25. TRM will re-write tunes for as long as you own it. If you can tune a WAR setup yourself then it's actually comparable in cost. I think a TRM remote tune is $650. If their 'off the self' tune supports you mods, that's a winner at $250. A WAR Chip is $350 and dyno tuning is usually around $100 an hour. By that math, you have three hours dyno time to get your setup down.

I'm waiting for Matt and Brody to start chiming in...

Matt may chime in, but Brody doesn't spend much time on here. ;)

As far as you not being satisfied with the M50, it's because it never saw any boost. :nice:

So it seems like everyone likes the trm chip but I know a guy that use to work for miller performance and im gunna see if he can help me out with the tune if i get the war chip...might go turbo later down the road.

If you buy a TRM NA chip, you will get 100% credit for it when you upgrade to a turbo tune package.
