I'm running a vibrant muffler with magnaflow cat with 2.5" piping and inlet on the muffler. Its got a nice burble at idle and sounds amazing at WOT. I'm also running the ebay headers which makes it alittle raspy unfortunatly. That being said I would definitly recommend it.

Questions for all you guys running the vibrant exhaust. Does a single ultra quiet resonator mated to the vibrant muffler do a good job of quieting the exhaust? Im about to get my custom exhaust installed and Im not sure if it will be quiet enough. Right now Im planning: obd2 exhaust manifold > y pipe 2.5 in > vibrant ultra quiet resonator > vibrant muffler. No cat ;)

I know some of you have this setup... Is it quiet or do I need another resonator?

Also, what do you guys think of putting the aero turbine muffler in place of a resonator? Since its a "muffler" do you think it will quiet the exhaust more than a resonator?

Same thing with my Dynomax, I really thought it would help, but idle is the only time it sounds good. I think I have an "I told you so" coming...

I'm going with the Vibrant for sure when I have the exhaust reworked, and probably one of the Borla XR-1's in place of the small Magnaflow I have right now (in place of the cats). Just couldn't afford what I wanted at the time, so I went with what I had and would work.

My plan this time around is I'm going to have the pipes that come under the car from the ebay headers cut off probably just after the subframe, and have flanges welded to them, so they don't hang so low. Then, I'm going out of those into a Y-pipe with a bung for the 02, and out to a single 2.5". Probably do a Borla XR-1 there in place of the cats, a small universal cat directly after (or before), and then single 2.5" all the way back to a Vibrant single in/dual out.

Im having my exhaust installed right now and should have it back tomorrow. OBD2 exhaust manifold > custom downpipes to clear the subframe and control arm > y pipe with O2 bung > single 2.5 inch ss flex pipe > 2.5 inch ss piping w/ v band clamp > 14" vibrant ultra quiet resonator > more 2.5 piping > single 2.5 in/dual 3.5 out vibrant universal muffler. Hopefully it will sound reasonably quiet.

Like everyone else in this thread... Ill promise to post up sound clips, but I wont deliver

I hope you at least post up your impressions because this is the basic setup I'm considering except in 3". I've hesitated to pull the trigger because I'm worried it will be too loud. Not for my tastes, but to not be harassed all the time by dickhead cops with nothing better to do. I'm really curious to hear how much the ultra quiet resonator quiets it down.

I got the exhaust finished and its quiet. Too quiet. Its maybe 2 decibels over stock sound. The ultra quiet resonator is indeed ultra quiet. It sounds very good at idle and wot, but its just very quiet. Im kinda pissed :hitler:

My friend with a 328is has the same setup but no resonator and its loud as hell, almost as loud as open headers. Im surprised the UQR did that much in quieting down the exhaust

^ Thanks. I'm kinda surprised it made that much difference. I want "quieter" not "too quiet". Hmm, now I've got some more thinking to do. :???:

Awesome! This means I just have to run one of those to a 3" vibrant at the back for my s54 swap! :woowoo:

Please post an exhaust clip when you have a chance! :D

its too quiet?? damn! I think mine is too loud now! I have a regular 12 inch bottle type resonator. Thinking of throwing another muffler inline but maybe I should just throw in an ultra quiet resonator instead.

I never could get a decent sound clip....but trust me, its loud.

now I know why mine is loud. I got aggravated enough tonight to pull my headers out and look as it was driving my crazy. I found this on the top part of the exhaust, next to the floorpan. I ended up pulling the headers and all of the exhaust off. Most of the welds are crappy, I'm taking it back up there in pieces so they can weld properly. Grrrr...
