    m20 flywheel hitting e34 oil pan

    can anyone help me out?
    engine is in, i don't mind taking it out as i already have to secure that reversed threaded nut for the oil pump.
    i just need to know how much it needs to be shaved from the back side of it to fit properly with the pan.
    any specifics?

      I had them take mine down to about 1-2mm above the ring gear.

          noob question, but how much did it run you, did they lighten yours as well aside from the shave?

              Adrian is right, just that amount they took off did lighten the flywheel by about 3-4 lbs, which is a lot. A lot of people will have a large portion of the mass from the center out toward the edge of where I had the flywheel milled out too, taking out another substantial chunk of weight, but the shop I took it to wasn't really able to do it with their setup, and I didn't want to go searching all over for a shop that could. That degree of lightening is really unnecessary, anyway.

              To have that material removed as well as a resurfacing (make sure you do that), cost me about $85, which is a little high, but not outrageous.

                      I meant to say resurface but my hands typed shave, brain fart.

                        I told the clutch shop to make it 12lbs, they did, it fit.

                        And with Redline MTL in the trans, I had no "rattle" from the lightweight flywheel, and an S52 still provided plenty of torque to get away from a light.

                          When I did my swap using the G260, I had a local shop shave my flywheel like yours, but all the way down to the gears. Completely smooth around it, cost me $40 bucks. No rattle/vibration from it or anything.

                            I threw mine on the brake leathe, and just kept cutting. Worked out great.
                            I also have an extra I'm selling, thats been cut down in back and resurfaced in front, if anyone needs one.

                            24V M50, M3 cams, Turner Tune, full exhaust, ect....
