I pulled the intake manifold and found that the black and white wire (pin 14 on the c101 to pin out 42 on ecm) was pulled from its connector so I properly soldered it back together. I hope to test it out tomm night and it solves the problem. Ill report back tomm. goodnight and thanks guys!

Okay that didnt work. I mistaken the black/gray wire for black and white and connected it to the white and black wire from the connector didnt get a chance to check the pin number but anyways that isnt the problem.
I checked pin 14 to pin 42 on the DME harness and there is continuity
so to sum up the facts:
-pin 14 on the c101 connector has continuity to pin 42 on the DME harness so there is no break there
-I dont have any problems with my speedometer so the sensor in the diff is good
So what could it be? could something related like possibly the cam position sensor be causing the CEL? Could it be my tune from TRM since its relatively new? Where does the female side of pin 14 go? to the insturment cluster I assume?95 7.1L 16V E36 M3

What i found with my last customer car is someone had swapped a VDO speedo into a motometer cluster and the circuitry didnt match up however so the cluster wasnt spitting out a VSS. Had to swap clusters...

so this weekend, I have determined that there must be a break in the wire from the rear of the insturment cluster to the C101 or I have a bad cluster.
So I ran a test wire from the Speed signal out (blue/yellow) to the black and white wire after the c101 and drove it for a day and no CEL! so I tied everything up and soldered the wires bypassing the c101 and so far so good. I did notice an improvement in power since the TRM tune is dependant on the VSS.
