    exhaust question

whats the general consensus on running either dual 2.5 front to back vs. running a 2 into 1 pipe with a single 2.5 front to back?

my m52 project is currently still in its building phase and ill be running OBX m52 headers (if that even matters)

I'm no exhaust guru but from all the research that I've done I found that if you're under 300hp a single 2.5" from the headers is fine.

If you go dual, I wouldn't run larger than dual 2.25". If you want to go single, you will be fine with single 2.5".

would i be better off buying a prefabricated exhaust (superspring, etc) for my e30 in 2.25-2.5 diameter than going custom and buying a muffler?

looking for a more cost effective alternative without going SUPER cheap and still having some quality.

I paid like $600 for my custom pieced exhaust single 2.5 from the headers back. Vibrant makes nice resonators and mufflers.

Only a heavily tattooed fool who tortures wild snakes would pay that much for exhaust.

There has to be a shop in your local area that is known for doing custom exhaust work. Find one that will build you an exhaust with "mandrel bent" tubing vs "Crush bent."

Even if they are just cutting the sections you need out of mandrel pieces.

Get your muffler/cat/resonator or whatever together, go in and tell them what you want.

I'd go single 2.5" for a cost/simplicity issue, the slick thing to do is add a V-band clamp up front so the exhaust is super easy to drop and get out of the way for future maintenance.

If you have any forced induction plans, then I'd go ahead and just go 3"

                    My two cents.

crush bends aren't bad if they're done properly (up to 30 degrees or something? it's on gustave's website).

You have to be careful with mandrel bends that are peiced together, because if the guy does a sloppy job of welding (with ridges/steps inside the pipe) it's going to be worse than a good crush bend and cost more at the same time.

if you're staying N/A I'd go for a single 2.5". Vbands are nice, just make sure your welder knows WTF he's doing, if he warps the vband flanges they won't seal properly. Otherwise they make it super easy to remove the exhaust, we're talking under 5 minutes rather than a half hour or more (stupid rusty 3-bolt flanges!).

EduardoGomez - dude, you're sort of walking on thin ice here. did you come in just to insult a guy because he had a decent exhaust system built? WTF? $600 isn't even that much.

I built this to Nando's specs and have been very happy with it.

Somewhat on topic. Is a 3in single exhaust going to noticeably decrease torque on a NA s50? I'm considering adding a turbo in the future, once my bank account recovers a bit from the swap, and it would be nice to not have to redo the full exhaust.

not if you have good headers; torque is made in your headers not the exhaust pipes.

Are you kidding me? You can't even get a good set of headers for $600.

I love how people expect exhaust work to be like $300 for tubing and mufflers and labour.

You make me laugh. Go look at how much a decent muffler, cat and resonator cost, then multiply by two if you want dual piping.
