exhaust question

crush bends aren't bad if they're done properly (up to 30 degrees or something? it's on gustave's website).
You have to be careful with mandrel bends that are peiced together, because if the guy does a sloppy job of welding (with ridges/steps inside the pipe) it's going to be worse than a good crush bend and cost more at the same time.
if you're staying N/A I'd go for a single 2.5". Vbands are nice, just make sure your welder knows WTF he's doing, if he warps the vband flanges they won't seal properly. Otherwise they make it super easy to remove the exhaust, we're talking under 5 minutes rather than a half hour or more (stupid rusty 3-bolt flanges!).
EduardoGomez - dude, you're sort of walking on thin ice here. did you come in just to insult a guy because he had a decent exhaust system built? WTF? $600 isn't even that much. Are you kidding me? You can't even get a good set of headers for $600.
I love how people expect exhaust work to be like $300 for tubing and mufflers and labour.
You make me laugh. Go look at how much a decent muffler, cat and resonator cost, then multiply by two if you want dual piping.
The $600 was for vibrant cat, resonator, muffler, y pipe, and 2.5" mandrel tubing with all custom hangers. I thought I got a great price for the quality of the product, work, and the amazing sound!Originally posted by blunttechAlways Always go for the reach around if there is an optionComment

Which Vibrant resonator did you use? I'm going to go with the "Ultra Quiet" Vibrant this time for my s54 exhaust.
Every Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator is constructed of 304 Stainless Steel for superior durability and polished for show quality looks. Vibrant resonators feature a "True Straight Through" perforated core, surrounded by premium multi-layer sound absorption materials to dampen noise levels without restricting exhaust flow. The Ultra Quiet Resonators feature a larger sound chamber, which provides better sound dampening than the standard bottle resonator, and eliminates the rifling noise common with 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder engines equipped with straight through performance exhaust systems.
Since the Street Power muffler are pretty loud, and catless headers make the s54 stupid loud, I want to see how this works compared to a conventional Borla as a middle muffler. Vibrants are my favorite mufflers, PERIOD. I don't care how loud they are, they flow great and sound amazing! :pimp:Check out Undr8d Empire on Facebook: www.facebook.com/Undr8dEmpireLlc

I didn't go with a resonator because I didn't want it to be loud, and I expected a muffler to do a better job. I'm thinking I might replace my dynomax with a vibrant but I like the way it sounds as-is..Comment

Haha oh man!
Hey chris, I didn't know breeding snakes was considered torture? Lulz
Coming from the guy who reused 200k mile piston rings in his build I think anything that's not free or old is to much for him.
First locally, then e30tech (search his name), now here. Lulz
and to stay on topic..
I have heard Giantkeepers exhaust and it sounds really nice! It also looks clean as hell to!Last edited by xAZxE30x; 06-16-2011, 09:11 AM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

Nothing, I loved my Borla + Vibrant combo, but I want to see how "quiet" the resonator actually is. It's moreover an act of curiousity because I love Vibrant's products! The catless headers + single 3" exhaust will be pretty loud with a Vibrant outback. I will be using an original E60 M5 cat before the resonator, so that should help. If it's not quite enough, then I will go with a larger Borla Pro-XS in the middle.Check out Undr8d Empire on Facebook: www.facebook.com/Undr8dEmpireLlc

where did you get an M5 cat? how big is it? I'd so much rather have an OEM BMW cat than aftermarket junk..Comment

The cat is 2 3/4" I believe or maybe 3" and it's roughly 12" long. I figure if it's enough for a S85, it's plenty for my S54. :nice:Check out Undr8d Empire on Facebook: www.facebook.com/Undr8dEmpireLlc

what all am i going to be looking at: resonator, cat, muffler, a Y pipe, and then the piping to be welded in from the header dump tubes out?FOR SALE: diamantschwarz metallic 1991 m52 e30
