    Power Steering

how are people routing their power steering lines? I did an e36 m3 steering rack and the hoses don't seem to match up to the stock power steering pump.

I had a hard time with mine, and ultimately will likely go with some custom lines so that I can relocate my reservoir to a better location so that there is not so much stress on the lines, and so they are not rubbing on shit.

Just keep your banjo bolts loose till you get the lines situated, then tighten them up.

yeah i just checked all the lines. the one line that has all the bends in it coming from the steering rack is just in a crazy position and im afraid it will rub on the belt that is right above it. i think relocating it and making new lines might be the best option.

i have an e36 rack and i used a mix of e30/e36 and e46 lines lol. i also used the e46 cooling lines that sit in front of the rad. works well!

I think I actually used one E30 line and one E36 line for my rack swap.

I ran custom lines, removing the cooling circuit. The only one that I was able to keep was the feed line from reservoir --> pump...and even that one I had to trim shorter than normal.

what were the exact lines you guys used? I have the reservoir to pump and reservoir to rack. Now I need the pump to rack. Help!

all my e36 lines actually ended up fitting pretty well. there is a tiny bit of stress on the larger line going to the reservoir but thats about it. the pump to rack line fit a bit funny, i think i might change it later, but all i had to do was make sure it wasnt hitting anything when i tightened it down.

I have the same setup as you.
e36 pressure line (pump to rack*)
the otherone is a frankenhose, stock fitting on the pump, hose clamp on the resevoir. The third (Resevoir to Rack) has the stock end for the bank bolt but both ends are hose clamped.
                        No more e30s for me.

How did you guys fit the e36 high pressure hose? The one I have, 96 328is hose, has no way of fitting at all. Do you know if the e30 325 hose fits?

the high pressure hose from the e30 has a smaller banjo bold at the rack. Im pretty sure (someone correct me if i'm wrong please) the e30 hp banjo bolt is an M14 and the e36 hp banjo bolt is an M16.

are you saying that the high pressure hose from the 96 328i has no fitting whatsoever? you might be mistaking it for one of the hoses that goes to the reservoir. there should be a total of 4 hoses all together. rack to pump, pump reservoir, reservoir to rack, and one that is on the rack.

My bad, poor grammar on my part. What I meant to say was that the e36 pump to rack hose will not fit whatsoever. The hose is way too long and the bends make it very difficult to fit. I have every other hose connected just fine, its just the high pressure line thats screwing me
