    No fuel

Trying to start up my m50, it cranks and gets spark but no fuel. We added a little starting fluid and it started for a second then shut off. I take off the fuel line from the fuel rail and its completely dry... Sounds like the fuel pump isn't getting any power, when I put the key in the on position I don't hear the pump running.

I checked over my wiring adapter and I double checked to see if the fuel rate connection (pin 8 to 24) and the fuel pump relay connection (pin 13 to 13) were connected and they were both good.

    Any ideas?

You could check your fuel pump relay to see if it's getting power

Is there a way I could tell without any fancy tools? lol

And if it doesn't get power, is it a faulty relay or the wiring up to it?

Check light (or cheap flash light torn apart).

Attach one side to ground, other to a wire and you can figure out if something is hot or not!

Lol thats clever. I'll have to check with it tomorrow. If its possible, im going to replace the fuel pump relays with the for sure working ones that came off the m20 wiring harness. Im really hoping that does the trick.

Test lights are super cheap and you can find them almost anywhere that sells car related stuff (wal-mart, autozone etc.) thats all you really need.

You can probe the wires from the bottom side of the relay to see if the relay is getting power. And if it is you can also check to see that it is sending power to the pump.

Okay, ill check it out tomorrow. FWIW it was working just fine before I pulled the motor out.

Replaced my fuel pump relay with a known working on and still nothing. Sounds like its not getting power up to there. What exactly is involved to give power to the relay? I'm pretty sure my harness adapter is correct.

                        "pretty sure" means not sure.

You did not check it with a digital multi meter or even a check light. If you go back to this with a meter or check light you can verify the power path to the relay that is not working. if the power is there, then there is a ground issue or IGN+ trigger issue.

IF having problems, go back to square one sir :)

check that wiring connecting WITH a multimeter:

                        1. check for continuity - i.e. wires are what u think they are and go where u think they go

                        so:

find the plug that goes to the fuel pump, check what color wires are there (reference the TIS wiring diagram, if you don't have it DL it now!!!)
check for continuity between the wire there and the wiring in the adapter you think it is (that you connected to).

trace the power path and see if there is 12V + @ ecu, at all injectors, at all 6 coil packs. see if its consistant....

see if the ECU is triggering the fuel pump relay to send power to the fuel pump. if you reference the TIS diagram, the path will be shown :)

                        2. check for proper polarity - often people mix up grounds and power and signals......bad

you cannot play "swap parts game" and expect it to solve a lack of power issue. the power is simply not going where it should be, or the grounding is not there to connect the loop.

electricity is a complete loop, one side or other out ....no dice :)

Cool sounds good, I'll check over all that stuff. Im also borrowing a buddies adapter which was working on his e30 to see if it might be a problem with mine. Electrical shit is way above my head =/

ecu grounded correctly? i had the same problem with my m50. threw a grounding wire together to connect ecu to a good ground point and started right up

Its not grounded at all? I didn't even think the ecu had a ground =/. I know the transmission ecu has a ground, but not the main ecu
