85' 24v eta refresh + build from puerto rico

well decided to create a build thread for my eta project :D

here is my 85 eta diamanshwarz coupe:

i pick up the car with about 130,000 miles on the m20 and after about 1,500 to 2,000 of abuse it started to sound funny on the crank. so instead of rebuilding the lazy old m20b27 i decided to swap a m50 in there just for the fun of the build and the mechanics involved.

so few months after i saw a clean 92' 525i with a good looking m50 sitting there and the price was also a nice, they wanted only $800 for the complete car. so i bought it and some weeks later here is the m50 sitting at my garage:

the 525i had 143,000 on the ODO and it was an AUTO, so found the price fair.

i sold the 525i and the person who bought it removed the m50 by himself and delivered the motor with all ACC i asked directly to my home, so i have no complaints about giving it away for a cheap price.

after selling the e34 and the old m20 i got the m50 practically for free ;)

more photos soon of the m20 removal and m50 cleaning in a couple of minutes!

      a bit of a delay...

don't have to much pictures of the whole removal process, not trying to make a DIY but just to share my work :D

here is the m20 prepping to be removed:

      off she goes!

so here is a little story about the m50 motor,

            all cleaned up:

            painted with headers installed:

it was just about to get to the car when someone poor some water inside of it. at first sight the a/c compressor was damaged then i just got curious and decided to took the top end part to check for water residue

there was no cracks on the cylinder head and no sings of water here so.. at this point i didn't want to deal with the crank and stuff

but when i removed the oil pan i found some pieces of metal and decided to take everything apart.

single mass m20 flywheel, shaven and resurfased

rear subframe removed, some new bushings 3.73lsd swap to dig the old open 2.79 and new brakes (in the works)

as you can see im working in a bunch of stuff at the same time, im doing interior color swap from beige to black. no pictures though

i've sent the head to the machine shop to get it cleaned and checked for cracks if any

                how it was

dont know why they painted everything grey, but i found it a cheap way to hide the grease :(

look at the grey paint on the valve seats

                another view:

                how it is right now:

                clean!

                        update;

the headers are ebay ss reps. i removed all the accessories from the block and im in the process of stripping it down.

here is the block as it is right now:

                        cylinder bore:

                        main cap #6:

                        piston cap #5:

i will post more pictures of the rebuild process, im doing the rear subframe right now, new bushings, 3,73lsd and new break parts.

                        thanks for reading!

                        Luis saludos!!
