I installed the 944 booster. Increase in assist is extreme. 5 fold maybe.

My conclusion is that my e21 booster was bad. Considering it is essentially the same size as the 944, that's the only way I can explain such a huge increase in assist. So, I officially can't comment on the effectiveness of the vacuum canister at the moment. I still have it connected, so I'll come check in if there is any change when I pull it out.

At least now I don't feel like such a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles for struggling to do smooth downshifts at the track...I was essentially running manual brakes with the stock master cylinder!

We had a bad booster in our E30. It wasn't holding the vacuum and it was scary as hell to drive. We tested the old booster to realize that it wasn't holding a vacuum. That clearly was the issue.

We replaced the booster (tested the new one before installing it) and it solved the braking problem.

The E21 booster also works much better when you upgrade the front brakes to a BBK.
