Well, in Canada the question is rust. If there is ANY on the chassis, then it's suddenly worth about $500-$1000.

If the car is rust free and stock, maybe around $2500.

As you go up in value, you're going to be hitting engine swapped cars at around $3000.
I find turbo cars are around the $4000 range, those vary depending on the components and quality of the job.

The $6000+ cars are usually cars that have serious engine swaps or mods, or strange body mods, such as M3 convertibles and the like. The sky is the limit with these things.

No rust, has the specs I listed.

Does anyone know anything about cars being bar'd?

My budd has an s5(?) swapped e30 and said I should not get this car because it is not barr'd.

He said cars must pass the bar to be legal.

            Any help is highly appreciated

Just have to make sure it's a clean swap with all of the emissions related parts from the donor car. The less 1/2 assed or customized stuff the better.

The guy said he has a full custom exhaust but he has the cat that he can swap out to make it pass smog.

I am worried about buying the car without a bar sticker. Can I get in trouble if I do not have this?

I read it is required for any motor swap, stock or non stock.
Also I read that you cannot get a bar sticker if you convert form obd2 to obd1? is this correct.

                Thanks guys.

                  Hi!

If the car is local to the bay you can bring it down to our shop and we can check it out for you. I can also let you know if it was done half assed or if it would not pass smog / CARB. We can also help you get it through the process.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

There is a lot of details that set the value of that car. I really check for the little things like small covers, fender liners, proper mounting, emissions, functionality.

Nice shameless plug there. Good idea to get it checked out by a professional either way.

(unless you are a semi-profressional, then get an idiot to check it out, so they can tell you whether you should buy it or not based on looks alone)

Judging by that terrible engine bay picture the swap looks very messy.

Not everyone with a swap in CA has had their car BAR'd. Mine isn't and I've been running the swap for almost 4 years.
