Everyone I pop the hood for says that big carbon can looks badass, a lot better than just a cone with a wall around it would look.

castros box for sure. air filters are all about surface area - the kamotors intake can't compete in that regard. There's a reason the castros box is so big.Comment

Unfortunately the air filter option with the ABS unit in place isn't THAT much bigger then the KA Motors intake. However, if the ABS is removed, you can run a ginormous filter!

I'm with this guy. The kamotors looks good and ducted properly I'm sure it performs. At speed there is so much air rushing in I'm doubtful that there is really a huge IAT difference with or without the airbox. Modern cars, yea, but the e30 has a pretty wide open engine bay with room for air to move.i bought the kamotors one. had one before and i liked it, put it in yesterday and..yep i like it again lol. it really came down to price. i couldn't justify double the cost for what seemed like a glorified heat shield(no offense) when i know i can modify something to "hide" this large carbon can in my engine bay...though it does look bad ass.
the sound it makes is amazing. you can really hear the gulps of air the motor takes. when spring comes i will be popping out the highbeam and running some ducting and what not.
I'd be interested to see you run the temp sensor inside of a kamotors cone for comparison. Data is great, but a comparison is needed to make use of such information.I have a Castro box with my S50 swap and 3.5" setup. I recently setup a temp sensor in the airbox to monitor temp changes.
At this point I have seen temp differences up to 25 degrees between the box and the engine bay.
So far for me, the C-box has been effective for form and function.Comment

Thanks for the good word guys.
I've done lots of IAT testing and without proper ducting Your IAT's will rise. It took speeds of 60+mph to get my IATS down to under 100 degrees without the duct installed. With the duct my kit will breath ambient air at all speeds. It takes nothing more than a sensor in the airbox to prove this.

Thanks, but I have no interest in comparing the units. I bought the one I wanted. I am running a 3.5" maf and the guys that offer product for that is where I went. I just tested air temps to make sure I was drawing enough cool air in since I still have my high beams in place.Last edited by giantkeeper; 10-25-2011, 06:10 AM.Originally posted by blunttechAlways Always go for the reach around if there is an optionComment

understoood. I'm just defending kamotors, pointing out that there is no comparison here. some may read your post (looks like a few already have) and think oh that's great, I'll skip kamotors based on that info, when really it's not justifiable unless there's an apples-to-apples comparison. which, if done, would likely prove that both are good units it's just a matter of personal preference and depth-of-pocket lol.Comment

IMO our box cleans up the engine bay much better than that canister, especially with the m20 coolant reservoir in place.
Chris (giantkeeper) posted factual information that he went out of his own way to find. Until kamotors chimed in, no one bothered posting any meaningful information, other then personal preference on looks.understoood. Just to be clear, the same duct can be run on our airbox. Thanks for the good word guys.
