    24v vs SR20det Swap?

    Hello Revlimiteder!

I recently got some extra funds and a e30 coupe that is just sitting in my drive way that I would love to do a swap with! I have always wanted to do a 24v swap but I've read a few other site and how people have done a sr20det swap into the e30 chassis. Being a previous nissian driver, I love the SR engine. It is capable of producing really good numbers with stock internals and rather cheap to get there and very reliable.

I've driven a m50 car but not a s5x car. So I don't really have a feel for the engine. My question is which one do you guys prefer, how much would each swap cost and how hard will each swap be? Note that the car will driven 45 miles daily. I have a lot of time to do this swap since i'm using my vert as a daily! Thanks and looking forward to hear from you guys who have done each swap!!

I've driven a 240sx with the swap which was pushing 260rwhp on the stock turbo. Nothing special in my eyes, just a bunch of turbo lag. Even with the dinky stock turbo.

S50/S52 is by far a better engine and I'll cost you a lot less to swap unless you can do your own fabrication and welding.

slap a turbo on a m50 based swap and make big power. sr swaps are cool, uniqueness points for sure.

Seems like a lot of people are telling me the s5x engine is a better engine as well. I really like the SR engine and had one with a t2871r on a flash.. Didn't have any trouble with the lag. Anymore input on this topic.. Going to be doing a lot more research on what is needed to swap a s5x into the e30 chassis. Any benefit between the s52 and s50 because converting the s52 to obd1

.2l of displacement and more low end grunt on the s52.

i'd rather have the sr20 with ball bearing turbine than s52. easier to tune also

I'm curious here... Stock turbos on a SR20DET being a t25/t28 spool stupid quick with little to no lag. Not bagging on the S5x series, but an SR20 will cost a lot less swap wise.

Personally, I would swap the S5x in there :)

If you want a Nissan motor why not have a Nissan car, only non BMW engine in a BMW that should ever happen is sbc v8's.

coming from owning an sr20det e30. I sold that thing and did an s50 swap. after you get passed the fanboi aspect of a ZOMG FACTORY TURBO MOTOR!!!!1!!1 the motor really is lacking in the TQ department that the s5x can put out. then add turbo and its really fun :D

I would stick with the BMW motor, purely because there is less custom fabrication needed to handle the swap. Problem with custom fab is that quality varies greatly depending on ability and knowledge.

24V swaps are so well documented that using custom fabbed parts is almost not needed, as off the shelf factory components can do the whole job.

Turbo on the 24v is also well documented and supported should something go pear shaped.

no need to OBD1 when you can S52+carb legal BAR ok OBD2 swap and get the smarter brain remapped for your liking!!

S52 is like a S14 Sr20DET. you get Variocam and a T28 but no 6 speed and no baller bearing. and its boring unless you change the turbine to a GT30R or similar

S52+turbo is same budget range as S15+6 speed+HKS GT30/35R kit, either would be ridiculously fun.

but either of those budgets can fetch a S54 and S54 > all other 24v BMW engines.

making turbo power with out turbo is much more fun.

You mean greater in weight than an S50 and SR20 put together right?
