    Swapping Gauge Cluster Parts?

Is it possible to swap the 7K tach from a 325i cluster into a 325e cluster? In order to replace the existing 4.5K tach?

I just bought a 325i cluster and it appears to be in disrepair. Numerous bulbs missing, one of the mounting tabs is broken, fastening nut missing, clear plastic is no longer glued.

I think my older 325e cluster is in much better shape, but I really want a 7k tach. I have seen the DIY on painting the needles, and installing the gauge rings, but I haven't seen any transplant surgery documented.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated, and pictures are always welcome.

    Thanks!

doesn't work without the 325i coding plug, and it won't work on an early 325e cluster at all.

if your cluster has the newer style coding plug, you could swap just the gauge face and coding plugs (leaving your existing tach motor/needle). the tach itself is the same, it's just the face and coding plug that are different.

Easy thing to do would be to install a 325i cluster and transfer your fuel gauge from the original cluster that came in YOUR car (to match the fuel tank).

The tachs have different pins on the late model motometer and vdo clusters, the speedos can go in either manufacturer's cluster though. I tried making honey out of dogshit with two clusters and found that out.

you don't need the whole motor - just the gauge face.
