Alright... So I just copied that.

Just ordered a 2.5" Borla Pro XS, and a Vibrant dual tip muffler along with a new O2 sensor, an O2 bung, a y-pipe, and a 6" section of flex pipe. So this would fall under the "Green" mock-up.

I hope to have this installed the week after next, and can finally drive this thing around town.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

Shit, thanks for reminding me, I need to go by the exhaust shop and pick up an 02 bung, totally spaced it.

For anyone that's considering going from 2-into-1 using the ebay Supersprint rep headers, the Flowmaster Y-Pipe is DEFINITELY the way to go. The spacing is dead-even for the pipes when mounted to the head.

We cut the downpipes off just after the bend that sweeps them down under the car, and slipped the Flowmaster Y directly over them without any resistance whatsoever. The outer diameter of the headers is a perfect fit for the inner diameter of the Flowmaster Y. For $41 from Jegs, you can't go wrong.

Would you happen to have a part number for that y-pipe from Jegs? Looked around a little but their website is terrible to navigate.

Just ordered eBay headers, a Borla XR-1 and a Vibrant 1040, just need this.

Here's my Y after being welded to the headers, with the V-Band flange and O2 bung:

Most of what I've read says the XR-1s are louder than the ProXS. By the way, mine came today:

                  I was planning on running S52 manifolds to the E36 Y-collector into a single 2" cat to a 2" glasspack into a 2" magnaflow straight-through.

"planning on" being the quantifying words.

How bad is it to bolt up the headers with the y-pipe welded?

I have an s52 swap im almost completed with. What setup would be best for a Cali Car? do i need to run 2 cats, one for each bank. So i would go with one of the x pipe setups?

My original plan was to run Ebay Reps and a stock e36 M3 catback. but i cant figure out how the midpipe should be designed.

I dont know why i cant wrap my head around how to do this exhaust. It seems there are too many variables/ways to do it.

Not bad at all. We welded the Y to the headers while they were bolted to the head, so the spacing was kept perfect. Even after blasting and ceramic coating, they still slip right on. We installed the motor with them bolted up, as well.

Ah, OK. Was wondering since they appeared to be fresh welded off the motor, but hard to tell in pics sometimes.

One of the first sets of headers I made, the flanges got warped from being in a clamp, not on the head. Had to shave them flat, learned my lesson that first time lol.

The Borla Pro XS mufflers are supposed to be some of the quietest mufflers available, I've done tons of research online and it looks like what most people choose for quieting their system down.

Check out the video I posted above, I'm actually building the exact same system that's on that car.

                              Ebay headers - Y pipe - single 2.5" - Borla Pro XS - Single 2.5" -
                              Vibrant

Bump for impressions or a vid of this set up? Ballpark cost if you don't mind me asking? Like most of you guys, I'm looking for a nice set up that flows enough, is civil around town, and has a good deep snarl when you really get on it.

I've currently got a a low hanging dinan e36 exhaust fitted to my car and it hangs a little low for my taste. The muffler is also huge for an e30 IMHO.

I haven't gotten everything welded up yet, but I'm building the exact same setup that e30polak had on his S50 car, should sound nearly identical:
