ZF trans issues- 1st and Reverse

i was told the 323 TOB was needed when running a singlemass flywheel. they had an e36 TOB in the transmission before and it wasnt driveable. they popped in the 323 euro TOB and it increased the gear selection/driveability and cut down on the grinding noises they were hearing (my previously posted topic i mentioned before)
all the linkage is the ZF transmission stuff and they said isnt the issue.
and they didnt have an issue mating the engine/trans up.
hes going to try adjusting the nut on the backside of the clutch pedal to see if that changes anything up.
a
any other suggestions?
M30b34/s35b35-6 single mass clutch setups are 100% identical stack height as the UUC setup for e36M3 use. I have posted a photo of my own somewhere on this forum.
M20 with OEM dual mass and g260 transmission can interchange dual and single mass.
Reference my own BNB Designs built E30 alpina m20, it started life as a 87 eta with original dual mass and G260 5 speed, installed Alpina M20+1990 325i m20 stock fly+clutch and kept the G260 and throw out bearing from the original G260 ETA. Videos of the car are on youtube with a 5 speed; photos posted/taken to document. Then the car got a 6 speed with dual mass, the throw out bearing matches the 6 speed now. old dual mass and single mass and 5 speed g260 are on the shelf for anyone who wants to inspect a mystery in person lol
throw out bearing needs to be matched to the transmission. the ID of the TOB of G260 and Zf SG320 are different, this could be your issue. there may be binding or incomplete insertion to the transmission tube.
Some other helpful r3v member posted a very nice thread all about the G260's in a FAQ thread documenting with pictures and.....a ruler. Also there is info about using the euro TOB.
a late model 1991 m20+ G260 can take a S52 dual mass fly and clutch in the place of the single mass and its clutch. Throw out bearing stays native to the transmission. I have driven this combination (a friends e30 touring) in third world country traffic, all 5 gears and reverse work fantastic.
I will try to measure the differences in ID of the S52 TOB and the M20b25 unit.

which slave cylinder is installed? ZF or G260? you need to have the ZF slave installed, its design is way different. this would cause much more problems than any TOB.Last edited by Wanganstyle; 01-30-2012, 07:58 PM.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

Yea man It seems the monkeys working on your car don;t have specific knowledge on this issue.
ZF needs a zf specific shift carrier, pivot fork, slave cylinder, and IIRC selector rod ( I just used a dssr).Originally posted by 325Projectzdon't listen to the diagram... listen to mr. swiss.Comment

everything from the ZF transmission was used that came on it. it didnt come with a slave so they had to source one.
do all ZF transmissions use the same slave cylinder and TOB or is there variations between the years?
does anyone have a PN for the correct slave cylinder and e36M TOB? that way i can match PNs for the slave currently on the car to verify that its the right one.
when we were having slave issues we went through PNs and there was a slave cylinder for e36 cyl cars that was fairly generic and ran across a wide range/years of cars.FOR SALE: diamantschwarz metallic 1991 m52 e30

thanks. they are going to exhaust a few more things over the next day or so. if they dont work the i guess running these PNs against whats already on the car and adjusting accordingly is the next stop. ill report back.

both the e36M and the 325i non m slave work; per UUC website with the UUC single mass kit and ZF 5 speed transmission.
a G260 slave is much different than a ZF Sg320 slave.
e39 528i, e34 525i non vanos, e36M, e36 328i, e46 330i all have compatible slaves to the ZF trnasmission and original clutch setup.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

this slave part number with a quick search appears to be the stock number for the zf320. i used this part as well bc i bought my s52, trans, slave etc. all still bolted together from the original car. while it did work fine for me as well the clutch seemed to engage too close to the floor. i switched to a slave from a 93 or 94 325is, sorry i cant remember and cant find the receipt now, but now the clutch only engages after i let the pedal come up about halfway. it may be a better match to the e30 master cylinder. the pedal became noticeably stiffer as well. the choice could just come down to personal preference. but it is an option you might want to consider before deciding on the slave you will useComment

some of the e36 masters look extremely similar to the e30 units also, there are a few varients. I want to run a larger master on my car so I can run a huge slave cylinder for easier effort overall with high pressure clutch.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25
