S52 to OBD1, is a complete OBD1 wiring harness required? Or can the OBDII be used? Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere.

Yup. Get a whole OBDI harness. No sense in splitting the OBDII harness open to reuse some wires. The ECU plug will also be different. -

Because I've read it's more of a pain to make OBDII work than it is to convert to OBDI. Plus you get some power gains from the OBDI intake manifold.Comment

Stay OBDII and just get the extras flashed out. If you have all the OBDII stuff dont waste your money on buying new things just to go back to OBDI.
Do your research and you will understand why you want to stay OBDII and why it will be cheaper.Comment

Run the OBD1 manifold with OBD2. I do it all the time. Running OBD1 on an OBD2 motor is dumb.

Well it's too late now. And I think OBD2 has higher standards for passing smog and getting the car legal in CA. And I've heard that it's hard to keep it OBD2, especially if you don't have an entire e36 parts car.Comment
