Right, Im sure a lot of charts actually in fact wrong/misleading/incorrectly documented I was not disagreeing with that, I just figured it would be safer to assume that the variables of each swap make it almost impossible to find a matching and accurate chart unless you can find your exact swap which matches all the way to each wire color.
You're better off researching/compiling your own chart and learning something in the process...especially for those who are doing it for the first time

so if there are so many changes with the wires between model and year how do those ultra expensive premade adapters work ? the plug and play ones for 200-250 bucks ?

you pay for the "minus the guesswork and headache" which inevitably might not be the right wiring for the specific car.

i've heard of market motorworks takes your M5X/ S5X wiring harness and they retrofit it with the plug for the c101 with the right wiring but u will have to submit your vin to match up the exact wiring harness.

Most of the off the shelf adapters dont work 100%. When i rewire customers harnesses i require their BODY side C101 color/pin out before i make their harness to ensure everything works perfect.

I think the broken link in your sig may do more damage to business than this one post. :p

Not too bad for a first DIY video, I'd recommend either using factory butt crimps and heat shrink or soldering the wires and then heat shrinking rather than just the twisting and heat shrinking. You'll usually get better results from the factory wiring diagrams, but the online pinout charts are a good starting point and usually have the main required pins correct.

Adaptors are great if you aren't very confident in your skills, but I prefer to transplant the body side of the e36's x20 into the e30. It looks stock while allowing for every circuit of the e30 to function and leaves room to add extra pins to the motor harness for aftermarket gauges such as oil temp, oil pressure, ect. if you so desire. Another benefit to wiring the x20 to the e30 is that it reduces the potential failure points.

                  1. Cut off the c101.

                  2. Prep the wires.

                  3.Map the pins.

                  4. Insert the e30's harness into the x20.

So what's wrong with Daves harness? my car runs fine.

Well done man, I'm sure this would be of great use to someone working on a swap.

Where do you get the plugs and ends for these?

I order the pins through my local parts dept. but most places that stock factory parts should be able to order them. The part # for the pins are in the full wiring 101 post taken from my build thread. ;-) I keep the seals to make the x20 weathertight from harness and circuits I remove from donor harnesses/connectors. Wiring 201 will be posted soon I just have to get my real camera back out into the garage to document what I did.

Edit: do you know of anywhere you can order new seals?

Nice video. I watched the whole thing even though i'm not doing a 24v swap lol.
You should make more DIY videos. Maybe something like a complete 24v swap from start to finish - that would be epic.
