a buddy back in the day was all into his evo 9, and I forget the details but basically he was saying that the 5-speed cars are better on the 1/4 mile because the 6-speed cars need to shift (into 4th perhaps) once more during the run.
of course, the less shifts the better. better off finishing at the top of a gear, then having to shift and lose revs.

in an e30 with smaller diameter tires, the 2.93 with a zf is damn close to a factory e36 m3 gear set.

didnt the e36 m3's come with a few different diff gearing ratio's. I know the 3.73 was a popular one, came in the 97's. didnt the 95's have a 3.23 or something.

Reaction time does not affect 1/4 time.

60ft time does, A LOT. Meaning, the better you hook up off the line the better your time will be.

I only dragged my e30 once, it's not easy to get a good 60ft, I ran better times than you did with m30 swap..but many things affect 1/4 time.

        Practice practice practice...

No, the 95 came with a 3.15, the 96+ manual came with a 3.23, and the auto had a 3.91. There were no 3.73's in e36 m3's. I had a 3.15 with a euro 6 speed and loved it, but for drag applications a 3.23 would be much better than the 2.93 being run now. I agree with everyone else though, something needs to happen tire wise. I would suggest getting the rear fenders rolled and wider rubber all around.

Good grief, 2.5 60' time killed you.

I still don't know how you people do so much tire spinning. My 195/60 winter tires hook up just fine with my S50.

              Auto 95s had a 3.23 and auto 96+s had a 3.38.

There wasn't a 3.91 in the auto M3's.. Just non-M autos. Maybe you are thinking of the 3.38 from the '97-98 auto?

Traction at the track always seems to be far worse than typical street conditions.
mentaleeill, good luck pulling mid 1.xx 60' times with an e30. It is not an easy task, one of the hardest car to get a decent 60' I have driven.

oh sory, somehow i got the numbers mixed up my bad. My brother has a 97 with a vortec V2 supercharger on it with OEM diff and im trying to get him to go to the 3.15. HIs first and second gears are worthless.

when my last e30 was na i did 1.6's with stretched 225's on 9" wheels out back. throttle and clutch control is a must. after going turbo with the same tire setup, i was in the 2.5 60' range, 12.2 at 136. tire to power ratio was a little off.
